  • What Sports Are About

This story gets to the heart of sport. It is encapsulated in a brief conversation between the best and worst ski jumpers in Calgary in the lift up their jump. "Winning and losing is for the little people" (the champion says); "we exist above all that in the pursuit of personal excellence" (paraphrase). That is why sports are interesting to atheletes and non-athletes alike: we relate to the struggle toward achievement. This movie does such a good job getting the character correct - respectful even while portraying his limitations as he lays it all out in public, in a way most of us are afraid to even try. We fear humiliation. He feared quitting. Great, wonderful story!

Absolutely stunning! This movie was eye-opening awakening and very inspiring. In a world of steroids, cheaters and treasure hunters this movie steps up reminds us what competition in sports should be about. It’s worth taking a chance for heart warming story.

Always amazed that some people have this never give up spirit and set at the time unrealistic goals. I rememeber this story line during the Olympics. Great movie to watch and it proves yet again that if you want something bad enough you can reach your goals.

I liked this movie, it was good, but it could have been great. It lacked the depth it could have had...I just think this movie had a lot more potential considering the great material and cast. I also noticed all the added story elements, and now I question what was and wasn't true about this story. I also have a litte issue with the message this movie sends. Yes, its inspirational, great underdog story...don't give up on your dream, take chances and risks, etc, etc. But the risk Eddie was taking is a little over the top, risking his life without the proper training and years of experience under his belt...not neccessarily an example I would want my kids to follow, if I had any that is. All in all, though, a nice movie, its ok.
