Description

Rise of the Sufferfests is the first documentary about Tough Mudder, Spartan Race and the global obstacle course phenomenon. The film asks why millions of people are suddenly paying to suffer through ice, fire, electricity, barbed wire, mud and more… and what it says about the world we’re living in. It features a colorful cast of characters from the cultish “OCR” community, as well as sharp—and often funny—social commentary from thought leaders like Morgan Spurlock, Tim Ferriss, A. J. Jacobs and Hanna Rosin. It also follows the misadventures of journalist-turned-filmmaker Scott Keneally, a self-proclaimed “beta male” who wanders deep into the crucible, tackling some of the world’s most brutal sufferfests. Far from just a movie about mud, it’s a smart, entertaining film about modern life and the journey of a “just enougher” to steel up in the face of fatherhood.

Tracing the history of OCR from its roots in fun runs in England through the modern day fascination with mud runs and "sufferfests" in general this movie has everything you could possibly want to know about this phenomenon and the people in your life that are currently obsessed with it. A must watch for anyone already knee-deep in the mud or just curious about why we would do this to ourselves!
  • Scott Keneally is a genius!

This documentary is truly inspiring! Even if you have no interest in OCR, you will when you're done watching! I've run over 30 different OCR races (Spartan,Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Savage, Battlefrog, & Rugged Maniac). Keneally did an excellent job of describing the details of OCR racing and opening an eye to the true obstacles one will face. Again, an outstanding documentary that I would recommend to anyone!

In the month or so since I bought this movie I have to say that i've watched it at least a dozen times or more. It's a great look into the world of OCR, and for those familiar with some of the names it gives greater appreciation for their acheivements.

I can't say enough good things about this documentary. Being an avid Obstacle Course Racer, this documentary is everything that I ever wanted to tell someone that was curious about doing a Tough Mudder or Spartan Race. Scott Keneally put his heart, soul, and not to mention body into this to make sure that this came out as the masterpiece that it is. OCR is not the fad that most people think. Once you watch this, you'll hopefully have a better understanding of why this has turned into an annual multi-billion dollar industry!
  • Motivational!!

Having only been participating in OCR for about a year, I was completely unaware of how it all started and how far-reaching the sport has become. This was definitely a fun way to learn more about it, and frankly a nice diversion from the politics and violence on TV. Engaging and entertaining!
  • A must see for the OCR addict!

No stone is left unturned on what began as an investigative piece turns into this journey of self discovery that leads the viewer into the bizarre untamed world that is OCR!
