I basically liked the movie and I have no doubt about the major contribution these women made to the NASA space program. But, this movie implies that NASA would have collapsed and never gotten a rocket off the ground without them....

IF hollywoodhad not made this movie about race and just told the TRUE story of the two Women, well you would have had a winner.

I'm totally fine with the fictional or symbolic aspect though based on a historical event, it is after all a "movie" and not a documentary - I can see the criticism in other comments becasue of this however. There are so many movies that are based on historical events but bend the truth - JFK, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can. So why the uproar by so many I wonder about THIS film - becasue the main characters are Black and heroic? Can only Whites be the heroes in movies loosely based on history or fictional movies - Superman, Wonder Women, Leonardo DiCaprio, James T Kirk, John Wayne - no problem they are hero quality. And NASA, that's holy ground for our heros Gene Kranz, Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong (errrr all White) - if a Black is also going to be a NASA hero they better be a PURE 1000% true hero with no falsehoods. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians can't be heroic except if the movie is 100% factual? Already, the "White Male Savior" is pretty much guaranteed in most every Hollywood movie. So why can't Hollywood bend towards Non-Whites maybe once every 5-10 years. Oh BTW - I thought this was a great movie, held my attention with a compelling and emotional story, made me cheer for the disadvantaged, the hero behind the scenes - saw the film with no preconceived notion - didn't realize the historical inaccuracy until after watching the movie and then reading the background. Didn't bother me that the film bent the truth, so what - it's a MOVIE not a documentary.
