Description

After a mass shooting at a police funeral, ex-cop Gannon realizes that the killer belongs to the same militia he joined when he quit the force. Knowing they will be number one on the suspect list and the police will be closing in fast, Gannon calls his fellow militiamen to a remote lumber mill to lie low while working out a plan. Once there, he uses any means necessary to identify the killer and stop the violence before it escalates out of control.

  • Horrible & pointless

I’ve seen a lot of movies, this was most boring long winded pointless movie. I felt I wasted time and money. Would rather watch paint dry.

I honestly wasn't sure what to think of it when I ordered, but after all the reviews from TIFF, I thought it was worth the risk. I expected a shoot 'em up, what I got was far more twisty and anxiety inducing. That last shot stayed with me.

Great mental dynamic through out but was hoping for at least one good action scene to wrap the film up.

If you like Resevoir Dogs, you’ll appreciate Standoff. This slow-burn mystery sparks throughout and never puts its flame out. The dialogue is spare and engaging, reminiscent of a cool, intelligent Michael Mann film. The film’s writer/ director is one I’d love to see more of. Don’t let the simplicity of the plot fool you. There’s a lot going on in this carefully constructed, well performed, written, directed indie gem.

It’s funny how we expect every movie to have explosions, CGI and 20 min action scenes....this was a cerebral masterclass in story telling. Witty dialogue, incredible performances and tension you can cut with the knife. If you love unique thrillers, you’ll love this
  • low budget film that lacks imagination

I'm rarely a fan of films that are shot in a single setting. When done right, they can create a bigger narrative left and stirring the imagination. When done wrong, they just feel budget. This is the latter for me.

In a world of remakes and blockbusters, it is so nice to see a true indie gem. Tense, artful and thrilling.
  • Just didn't work

I usually adore films like this. But this film was so self indulgent and high minded that about halfway through it I had to take a break and wonder what the payoff was going to be to the many, many setups. You can feel this is a film made by a talented first timer. You can tell it's a film made by someone with something to say. But they have not developed the muscles yet to achieve the goals they set. The actors did good work. But the writing and directing fell short of meeting the potential of it all. Almost though.
