Description

Monte (Robert Pattinson) and his baby daughter are the last survivors of a damned and dangerous mission to the outer reaches of the solar system. The crew—death-row inmates led by a doctor (Juliette Binoche) with sinister motives—has vanished. As the mystery of what happened onboard the ship is unraveled, father and daughter must rely on each other to survive as they hurtle toward the oblivion of a black hole. A staggering and primal film about love and intimacy, suffused with anguished memories of a lost Earth, High Life is a haunting, thrilling achievement from visionary director Claire Denis.

  • Dark, thoughtful…

There’s not much spoon fed to the audience here in Denis’ dark, thoughtful exploration of humanity pushed to the very brink. Yes, the pacing is slower than most films, the narrative unfolds in a non-linear style, but those let you ease into the viewing experience. By giving in, accepting rather than fighting, and trusting Denis’ intentionally slower pace, I found it a welcome change, and ultimately interesting film. It just took a bit of patience at first but proved well worth it. If you love the quieter bits at the start of “Alien” (and always wished there had been more), if you’re fascinated by the people rather than just the exciting adventures in space, and particularly if you love “2001: A Space Odyssey” or Tarkovsky’s “Solaris,” you’ll almost certainly find something here to appreciate.
  • A massive waste of time

This long, tedious movie goes nowhere—at a snail’s pace. Lots of disturbingly violent sex and bodily fluids, not a lot of story.

A good performance from Rob. However there is not much to this movie.
  • Great film. Different. Original. Clever.

Great film. Different. Original. It gives you just the right amount of details that makes you connect the dots while still being intrigue to find out more about the movie and the acting it’s superb. A 24 movies are always a treat.

Space movies are the bomb but this one is werid but visually stunning and entertaining to watch. Robert Pattinson is really good in this movie and plus don't watch it with the light off!

This film has a satanic feel to it and their is an unnecessary disturbing scene of a babys vagina in it. I recommend you stay away from this movie. I regret buying it. This is dark and anyone having a faith-based approach to life will do well to stay away from this movie.

The preview, makes this seem like a fast pace, thriller of some sort with the bonus of being an “artistic” film. That is what intrigued me enough to rent and watch it. It’s a bizarre film, slow, if you’re not the type of person who appreciates “deep” films with symbolism, metaphors, etc, I’d recommend passing on viewing. I’m into movies that are true works of art myself, but this one just doesn’t achieve its goal.
