I really tried to like this movie. I kept going back and forth on it. If you enjoy classic country music, you will really like her song SQUARE PEG. It is a beautiful song and it was worth the .99 cent rental. She has a few other good songs also. I just felt this was almost trying to put a square pegged Filipina into a Mexican round hole. The story is about illegal aliens living in the USA and trying to get sympathy. I can see how an illegal Mexican daughter is struggling but I am having a harder time seeing it from a Filipina point of view. They never explain how they arrived in the USA. So I am struggling to understand how they are here illegally. With all that being said, I am still feeling this square peg, because it is as if the author is trying a ME TOO attachment to illegal aliens. When this story could have been so much more beautiful if it was about a Filipina who is living in rural Texas and trying to fit into American country music. I think I would have been wanting to cheer for her and her accomplishments then. The sad thing is the author makes this other story line seem so overdone instead of inspiring. When reading other reviews on the film, I am questioning what movie they are watching and I would like to talk to the screenwriter about it and what was the real story she was trying to write. I applaud her efforts but for me it just fell short because I think the concept was really good. For me the political message overshadowed so many opportunities that could have made this film 100 times better.
  • Nice Effort But Very Slow

I really tried to like this movie as storylines revolving around past, present, or future singing sensations interest me. The first hour was just turtle slow, and I completely lost interest, so I did not finish the entire movie before the rental period expired. I had time to revisit the film, but I simply had zero inclination to finish it. Can I recommend the movie to others, not really. Sorry, but I sincerely gave an honest effort to like this movie to no avail.

Enjoying this movie’s themes and overall story. However, the pacing and writing weren’t particularly well crafted.
