Description

The Oscar nominated actor best known for his role of Mr. Miyagi, left behind a painfully revealing autobiographical record of his much-too-brief time here on earth. Tracing his journey from being bed bound as a boy to the bright lights and discrimination in Hollywood. Deep inside that sweet, generous, multi-talented performer seethed an army of demons, that even alcohol and drugs couldn't mask.

If only he knew in 2020 and 2021 how famous he would become again. How loved he truly is. Watching Cobra Kai and rewatching all the old Karate Kid’s and Happy Days. I only hope he sees how loved he truly is..

I knew him as the master that can catch a fly with chopsticks and who spoke those words that are forever burned into my mind, “wax on, wax off”, but what I didn’t know was the tragic childhood that he had to endure at a very young age. This film covers it all the good and the bad. Tells it like it is. I had an uncle who I was very close with and he also struggled with alcoholism, it also took his life. All I can say is WOW! I’m sad his life was cut short, but my gosh…he was SO COURAGEOUS despite the bad cards he was dealt. RIP Pat Morita.

First off, it was so great to see all the familiar faces, like the cast of Happy Days and Karate Kid. This movie delved into Pat Morita's amazing and inspiring story. He accomplished so much, against all odds, and gave us a truly iconic character for all time. It was so nice to see him celebrated this way, and to learn more about his life. He was definitely more than Miyagi, and will be missed.

When an iconic actor’s life story is portrayed, it is critical to be true to the essence of who they are as a person and not just an actor. The directors of this film did just that as they wove together the complicated life story of Pat Morita. From health, racism and bias, to the man behind his beloved characters he played, I was amazed at the way the directors were able to use clips, footage past and present, and the voice over narration by Pat himself. This documentary is a true work of art that makes me want to dive back in to see movies and episodes in which Pat gave his heart and soul. Thank you Love Project Films, Pat’s family, and most importantly thank you Pat for what you gave us all!
