Discover the untold stories of D-Day from the men, women and children who lived through German occupation and Allied liberation of Normandy, France.
Beautiful story. Well told. The documentary presents a side of World War II, in particular D-Day, that I have never heard. Seeing how the French continue to honor our American soldiers for the sacrifices they made in liberating them is incredibly touching. It has prompted me to want to do the same. I am grateful that this documentary was made and this story was told. I will share it with friends and family.
Fabulously well done!
I was drawn in from the opening scenes. I was emotionally engaged the entire time. I gained big picture understandings of America’s role in Europe during World War II that I had never had before, even while in social studies classes in school. And I was able to understand the direct throughline from our involvement there to the importance of political freedoms we have today. Such an important documentary for every American to watch!

We watched this with family as a part of our Fourth of July celebrations. It facilitated conversations between grandparents, kids and grandkids. We never knew how deeply thankful people from Normandy are. As Americans, we have much to learn about honor and memorial. It was meaningful to reflect on our own family members who fought in the war, and the veterans we meet who we could honor by asking for their stories. Thank you for sharing these stories and images.
So I thought, another hohum World War II flick...I couldn’t have been more wrong! Within minutes I was learning things about our GI’s that I’d never heard of before, not even from Grampa who was there. The bond between the French people and our GI’s is so sweet and wonderful that it brought tears to my eyes. The narrator has a voice that is soothing and very comforting. The movie is one that had me crying, laughing, then crying some more, but some were happy tears. It’s an emotional journey through a love story between the French and the US GI’s that has lasted for generations and continues every V-day. Thank you for telling these stories of those who were there and to those who love someone who was there.
Loved this film!
Wow! This was a beautifully done telling of a WW2 viewpoint few Americans know about. The script masterfully wove together the complexities of the American presence in Normandy - how it was perceived at the start, and how the relations with the French citizens developed over time, blossoming into the deep appreciation and true affection that exists even to this day between the people of Normandy and their American liberators. What a moving and inspirational film!
Incredibly Powerful and Moving!!!
I saw this film at a screening and had to buy it from my personal collection. This film is so well done and will be a piece of American history for years to come. It is a must see for anyone who wants to learn about one of the most monumental episodes in our history.
The Girl Who Wore Freedom
This was an absolutely amazing account of what our heroes experienced at Normandy. I’ve never been so proud of the service my family provided our country during WWII. The detail was spectacular!
Compelling portrait of sacrifice and love
This documentary is one of the most engaging and heartfelt tributes to the American contributions to the liberation of France. The words of the French survivors are riveting and emotional. American troops telling their story of life-long connections really bring out the care they exhibited to their fellow man. Make sure you have plenty of tissues ready!
So Emotional and Amazing!
As an American who did bot know much about the French perspective of the D-Day landings, I was blown away with some of the stories. It puts that time peiod into a whole new light.
It will grow your heart
I love watching movies that teach me something while also letting me see real people and hear their stories. This is so inspiring. And also beautiful to watch.
