Description

It's the 23rd century, and a mysterious alien power is threatening Earth by evaporating the oceans and destroying the atmosphere. In a frantic attempt to save mankind, Kirk and his crew must time travel back to 1986 San Francisco where they find a world of punk, pizza and exact-change buses that are as alien as anything they've ever encountered in the far reaches of the galaxy. A thrilling, action-packed Star Trek adventure!

(This review is more about the quality of the HD transfer of the Star Trek IV film, than the actual plot of the film) Star Trek IV has been out on home video for over 20 years now, and the HD transfer that I-Tunes used makes it look as crisp, and brand new as the year it was released, 1986!:D No flicker, or grain, scratches on the film, whatsoever! Well worth the $14.99 price I paid for it!!! Thank you for such a great digital transfer of this film I-Tunes!
  • A very good movie, with an exception...

This film had great potential and for the most part capitalized on it. The one drawback for me was the idea that you can travel in time by flying around the sun then doing a steep turn away from it. The cast might as well have put on red slippers, clicked their heels together, and all said in unison "We're not in Kansas anymore." Or was that Iowa…?

This is coming from a die hard Trek fan, so I don't know how much help this will be, but I found this movie particularly enjoyable. The movie follows Admiral Kirk and Spock as they travel back in time to 1986 to find what they are looking for to stop mysterious aliens from attacking Earth. A very different vibe from the previous movie, Search for Spock. Also, many hilarious parts, as Kirk and the rest of the team navigate their way through 19th century San Fran. A fun bit of trivia: The head banger on the bus that Spock "takes care of" was played by Gene Roddenberry. Over all, worth the purchase and a great movie.

The genius of this film is manily in it's basic plot. The crew of the enterprise are forced to go back to the 1980s via time travel and bring two humpback whales into 23rd century in order to repopulate the speicies and prevent an unintentionally-by-its-alien-creators destructive probe from wiping out the Earth searching for them. It takes the characters we know and love from Star Trek, and puts them in a 1980s Back to the Future-esque sci-fi comedy setting. This film is so wildly different from everything else that Trek has ever given us that it feels more like a breath of fresh air than an act of treachery. There's just something indescribably intertaining about watching Kirk, Spock, and the rest wander through the streets of late 1900s San Francisco, or seeing Chekof ask a cop, with his thick Russian accent during Cold War times, where the "Naval Base... where they keep the nuclear vessels" is. Make no mistake, though. There's still that right amount of depth there that we'd expect from the series, it's just not as blatantly in-your-face as usual.
