The Parallax View, a superb drama about one man's paranoia that turns out to be total, incredible fact, ranks amount the best political thrillers. Warren Beatty is a news reporter who, along with seven others, witnesses the assassination of a political candidate. When the other seven die in "accidents," the newsman begins to doubt the official position: that a lone madman was responsible for the crime. He imagines a sophisticated network of highly trained murderers. But his nightmares pale against the bizarre truth he uncovers.

  • A Warren Beatty film?

This movie was positively vapid! I certainly missed any profound moments at all, assuming there were any. Warren Beatty is one of my favorite actors. I somehow managed to never having seen this movie before. I was keenly disappointed. The acting was fairly good but the plot was atrocious. I kept thinking to myself– when is this movie going to start! Save your money!

First, I won't gush (I promise), but having only had to spend $5.99, and the quality of Beatty's actiing, I've ended up watching or listening to this movie at least 8 times in two weeks, three times with dedicated focus throughout. A viewer has to have a tolerance for 70s style, but also remember some of what came out of the 70s - French Connection, several Dirty Harry movies, Eiger Sanction, and several other timeless classics (3 Days of the Condor, Chinatown, Deliverance, and countless more). Now recall what went on in this country from the late 60s to the early 70s: Malcom X - assassinated, Martin Luther King - assassinated, Robert Kennedy - assassinated, George Wallace - nearly assassinated, then Watergate, and more. This film is a spectacular creation from that era, and Beatty's character is just really entertaining in a very understated way. All this for under $6? H#ll yes. I would not necessarily put it on par with 3 Days of the Condor or Chinatown, but it's now a permanent and highly valued (and oft watched, thus far) part of my poli-thriller collection. Thank you.

can not say that this is worth renting. awesome cinematography aside, the film might be better left in the 70's. The fistfight scene is over the top. I would advise those seeking good conpiracy therory movies watch All The Pres. Men.
  • Dated yet profound

There's one section in particular in this film that is frighteningly good... so good it redeems the many other sections that come across as dated, over-acted and/or implausible.

This movie is for anyone who enjoys a good political thriller. The plot moves quickly, and it hooks you in the first ten minutes of the movie. Everything in this movie from 1974 can be applied to 2007. Warren Beatty does an awesome job here. This movie is definitely worth the price.

Man, they don't make thrillers like they made in the 70s. Between this and "Three Days of the Condor", "All the President's Men", and "Chinatown", you really have all you need to know about American politics and power. Even today. Especially today. (All of these films made before I was even born.) And the films are so much smarter than the pap served to audiences these days. I can't recommend this highly enough. Pakula rules. R.I.P. iTunes - when will this be available in 720p HD???!??
