They turned a vile criminal that transported drugs in the caskets of deceased soldiers into a kind of antihero. In reality he wasn’t elegant but almost incomprehensible and not exceptionally charming. This romanticized fiction is passing itself off as rooted in fact and people are going to watch it and believe it. That’s disgraceful. And those praising him as some great icon for the sick way he profited should really ask themselves why.

I’m looking for the Denzel Washington movie called “Ricochet”. This is the first Denzel Washington movie I remember. It’s awesome! This movie made him a star! Please add it to your Movie library so I can purchase it. Thank you very much!
  • A rare five stars from me!

I was originally going to give it four and a half stars because I'm stingy with my five-star ratings, but this movie is basically flawless, and that's not something I say lightly. Everything in this film clicks: the performances are awesome -- especially Russell Crowe, even though Denzel gets most of the praise, the story is awesome, and the direction is stylish without being flashy. . The thing that makes this film stand out is how well it's paced. This film is three hours long and nothing feels wasted. Even a movie like Goodfellas, which most people will claim to like more (I don't know why, even as a student of film and, in particular, of Scorsese), has moments where the story sags a bit, where things get boring. American Gangsters isn't like that. . Another thing that causes American Gangster to stand out is how it keeps its characters clear and separate. Since I brought it up, Goodfellas does this, too. But, Goodfellas suffers from having too many characters to the point where, inevitably, you're going to be watching characters you don't like or care about for stretches of time. AG doesn't do that, and it seems that Scott is more aware of his characters and doesn't feel the need (rightfully so) to establish every character that comes on screen. . The issue that made me consider leaving off a star is the issue with Brolin's character, which is a mostly needless addition to the plot. I think the movie could have done without Trupo, but I understand that Scott kept it in there to explain Lucas' motivation for helping internal affairs arrest the crooked cops. So, even in its (albeit, minor) issues, the film still has a reason for everything. For fans of gangster films, this one is a can't miss.

Love Denzel a lot you have no idea, but this movie was literally just too much talk and just too slow. I would have liked a little more action. It was 3 hours of someone selling drugs and someone else trying to find the drug dealer.

joy list: 1. the denz 2. music from the past which is good 3. secret buddy movie at end 4. drugs, my favorite thing in cop movies(and going undercover stresses) 5. metaphor for times and symbols but with human narrative 6. though i don’t like russel crowe i admire the friendship or loyalty ridley scott has with him and that makes me like him a bit.( the meta buddy flick aspect) 7.i like the female co star(wife) she was very believable and had nice arms. I haven’t seen her in many other films.

Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe are phenomenal as two adversaries on either side of the law. A well written and directed film, it leads the viewer into the dangerous, immoral world of drug dealing.

In 1991 a movie called NEW JACK CITYdebuted. It told the story of Neno Brown based intirely on Nicky Barnes. If you think Frank Lucas and the Country Boys were "hard" you really don't know anything. You should see the BET's doc. American Gangstar and realize that this movie is ALL HOLLYWOOD.

Based on true story or not, it is cliches galore in a worn out story. Acting was good, though.
