On Any Sunday

I love this move, it's great. It shows why people love motocross.

The Husky in this movie recently sold for $145,000 to a guy in Europe. The highest priced dirtbike ever. It's in the record book.

On Any Sunday did as much for motorcycle racing in the 70's (and probably long after that) as anything else. This movie was talked about in racing circles for years after seeing it. On Any Sunday shows a wide variety of different types of racing and is very enjoyable to watch. An important documentary, thanks to Bruce Brown for his incredible gift to racing and racers.

This is one of the all time classic motorcycle films. Such a joy to watch. You become part of the crowd and can't wait for the next segment. A film well done...

A must own. I seen this movie in 1972 being 13 years old. My friends and I had to see it 20 times all summer long. This movie made motorcycles what it is today. From Flat tracking, Motocross, and the Widow Maker. After seeing this movie, my throttle was wide open all day long. They were the modern day Gladiators for us.

This remains the greatest motorcycle film ever made, decades later. It captures the skill, dedication, bravery and spirit of the racers so well that you come away with an ever greater admiration for them and their sport. Beyond the racing, On Any Sunday accurately captures what it is to love motorcycling, and to find yourself among friends that share the tremendous pleasure of riding these 'bikes. The final section featuring Malcolm Smith, Mert Lawwill, and Steve McQueen is probably one of my all time favorite 15 minutes in film; watching McQueen larking about and racing back to his bike each time he crashes it, I am convinced he'd say it was the most enjoyable fifteen minutes of film he ever made too. These days we are bombarded with cut-cut-cut edited 'jump videos' that usually have loud rock tracks and all look the same. They're spectacular at first, but hard on the eyes and you'll watch em once maybe twice. On Any Sunday is best captured in a single word: authentic. It doesn't need punchy editing to hide the gaps or improve it, it just floats above the rest, and always will. For motorcyclists, petrolheads, racers, and McQueen fans it's a must, but everyone else loves this movie too. Buy it don't rent it; you'll watch it over and over.

By the time this was released I had already ridden my first motocycle 10 years earlier (a 3.5 hp Taco mini-bike!). The hook was already set, but this buried it! For riders of my generation the names of Dick Mann, Gene Romero, Mert Lawwill, Steve McQueen, Bengt Aberg, and others are iconic. Many years later, this film still stirs the fire!

I first saw this movie in the theater when it came out in 1972. Since then, I've seen it dozens of times and it never fails to entertain. Others have said what I can wholeheartedly agree on: On Any Sunday is the greatest motorcycle movie ever made. Now, if the people at Apple can make the soundtrack to this movie available that would be the icing on the cake. I saw the track list once here on the iTunes Store, but when I clicked on 'buy song' it said it wasn't available. iTunes guys... please make it available for download here!

best movie with a dirtbike in it!!!

When I saw the movie in 1971 at the age of 11, I already owned a Honda Mini-Trail 50 and my older brother had a Yamaha JT-1 Mini-Enduro (both bikes that are shown in the film). Had it not been for On Any Sunday, this might have been a passing sport for the both of us. 38 years later and about 20+ motorcycles later (I am now 49 and my brother is 51), we both still ride and race actively. Motorcycling is so rooted my DNA that I could never leave the sport even if I wanted to. Bruce Brown's genius is directly responsible for this and I can never thank him enough for making this classic film understandable to anyone who watches it. #1 on my favorite films of all time list, hands down.
