Description

A student, an ex-con, an engineer, a social worker, a cop and a mentally handicapped person are caught like rats in a trap in a maze of interlocking cubes with no apparent way out. They're clueless as to how they got there or why they were chosen. Food or water is nowhere to be found, and upon further investigation, the six discover some of the rooms are booby-trapped with destructive devices.

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I'm writing this in hopes that someone reads it before deciding to spend their money on it. Ironic that it's called 'Cube' because nothing about this movie is three dimentional.
  • Still worth watching

Poorly written, poorly directed, and really poorly acted. But the concept is so innovative and different, it is worth a look-see.

I don't get scared by creature features. I laugh at ghost movies. What really gives me a good scare is phsycological horror. This movie sets up such a feeling of lonliness that it disturbs you. The mental breakdown of the characters is truly incredible and horrifying, and the constanly slight glimmer of hope that the characters recieve. Many will say that the idea of the the movie is stupid, and others will love it. I am the latter, and this is a truly great horror movie that doesn't wholy feel "B".

This is possibly the worse movie I've ever seen. The script is awful, the acting way over the top, and the directing clumsy. There really is nothing to redeem it.

The first Cube started it all plain and simple. If it wasn't for this film you wouldn't have "survival horror". It's a film that shows people in their purest form. It shows what we are truly capable of. Definitely worth at least a buck to rent, and you will walk away, quite simply, a better person.
  • An interesting waste of time...

I watched Cube after having seen the sequels Hypercube and Cube Zero. I'd have to say the sequels are way better. The director approached this movie with ultra minimalism, concerning everything from character development, plot, and background story. If you are annoyed by movies that ask more questions then they answer, don't watch this one. Still, the whole concept of Cube is very original one.

This came highly recommended, so I watched it with anticipation. Like the other reviewers have said, the film is a letdown. It was probably the director's aim to make you guess the point of the cube, but it does not provoke thought, only frustration. Who would go through the effort of doing this? Only Worth's cryptic hints give any indication, but the movie is ultimately unsatisfying. It is similar to a book called House of Stairs by William Sleator that I read in high school. Check it out, there is even a resolution to it.

While I understand that as an indie this movie impressed many of the reviewers, it succumbs to violence and graphic violence at that, way too easily. The violence detracts from plot and would have been far more effective if it had happened off camera. If I had known that there was going to be gore I would have stayed away. My other issue is that I could not muster any empathy for any of the characters. Those looking for a horror flick with some twists will enjoy... otherwise you will find better offerings for your time and money.
