    The best film of Sergei Bodrov that I’ve seen so far. Sergei - How about some Viking movie? Or some Sassenach film? Would be great I bet! :)

    This is a very good movie. The visuals were mesmerizing to me (rope, rain in cage, old monk walking, overhead battle scenes, horses with swordsmen, etc). I had some familial subtitle haters watch it - they really liked it too. I believe the comment went something like this - "You should probably buy it, we'd watch it again."

    A total misguided movie. Plot and depictions of characters used Russian and Chinese stereotypes of Empire of Mongolia. Total FAIL in my point of view and I'm Mongolian.

    Great Cinematography, interesting story and great direction. As far as being historically accurate is concerned I have read that it was adapted from the account written by a monk so like true historical accounts it has some gaps. Also this is part one of a 3 part trilogy, part 2 was set to begin production last year (2011) but there is little news on the project. Hence this film focuses on the years of his youth through to him becoming Ghengis Khan. The next films will focus on his later years if they are ever released! PS one reviewer wrote that Hollywood had rewritten some of the facts...it's not a Hollywood film!

    We see the weakness and defenselessness of a child, the continued betrayals during adulthood, that it is hard to see the hints of genius of the great warrior and ruler. HIs wife, on the other hand, turns out to be real star and saviour of the story.

    Fantastic cinematography, soundtrack, character development, and an absence of gratuitous violence makes this a truly epic film in the same vein as Braveheart and Gladiator. And a very entertaining historical introduction to one of the greatest military leaders the world has ever seen.

    I agree that there were gaps between story and this movie should have been longer for sure. Having said that, I could have watched this for a lot longer than 2 hours. Simply awesome work from picture to cast. This movie was worth the subtitles. Not sure how accurate it (its not like there were documents to most of what happened) was but there was great story-line that kept me fully entertained the whole time.
