Description

Black Sunday is the powerful story of a Black September terrorist group attempting to blow up a Goodyear blimp hovering over the Super Bowl stadium with 80,000 people and the President of the United States in attendance. Robert Shaw plays an Israeli commando who discovers the plot, masterminded by Marthe Keller with the help of deranged Vietnam veteran Bruce Dern. Director John Frankenheimer creates a chilling portrait of people obsessed with a cause for which they will die. In the exciting finale, Dern and Keller navigate the lethal airship into the terror-stricken stadium, pursued by Shaw in a helicopter, climaxing one of the most unusual chases in movie history.

  • Political thriller on the edge

Frankenheimer & William's score make for an absolute nail biting thriller , the story is PERFECT even by todays standard - some 35 years on and it's still brilliant suspense for a film of this genre . What carries the production and storyline is the sense of realism , fact contributing to the times it was made in and the use of politics in the middle east that were so turbulent then . Yet another brilliant 70's motion picture executed without the false hype & dialog of todays movies produced. Martha Keller & Robert Shaw make for compelling adversaries to which the climax brings a finely tuned end. A definite ' Must see '

Tight thriller based on Harris' first novel. Great performances by Shaw, Dern, Weaver and Keller, marred only by uneven visual effects during the climax. Takes on a whole new dimension in a post-9/11 world.
