Poignant, experimental and beautiful. The twist becomes obvious but is executed brilliantly.

Run Forrest RUN Away from this horrible movie. I try many movies who get Rotten reviews which I find often wrong but this one is so bad it forced me to write this review.

To me, there is nothing better than a good story with a twist. While the critical reviews and box office on this film were bad and worse, "Stay" is desperately underrated. While not the greatest of the mystery/thriller genre, it is exceptional for several reasons. First, it's plainly a good (albeit sometimes confusing) story. When you get to the end and realize what you have been watching for 95 minutes, you are instantly compelled to return the the beginning and watch again, looking for the clues. That is the telltale of a mystery tale well told. Second, the cinematography and editing are nothing short of sublime. The scene transitions are purely magical, and confound comprehension when one considers the advance thinking and fine details that went into creating them. The post people got a little heavy on the visual effects in places, and this gets annoying at times, but does not detract from the film. Third, the acting and dialogue are marvelous. It may be a bit slow for viewers craving action, but the text and subtext are a master class in literate script writing. Buy if you can, rent if you must - but plan on 3+ hours, because you will be watching this one twice.

I rented this 'cause I loved Ryan Gosling in all his other movies. I wanted to like it, but it just didn't make any sense. None of the dots got connected for me, and I think I'm a pretty smart guy. :) Ryan was good, as always, but even he couldn't save this mess of a movie. Oh well . . .

This is by far my favorite movie of all time. If you don't see the clues and hints to all the imagery and connections you're not paying attention. The music is good, cinematography is amazing, and the cast is perfect.

gosling's a great actor. mcgregor phoned this one in BIG TIME!!! there's no chemistry between any of the actors, and the writing doesn't flow making it feel unnatural. however if you're a collector of gosling give it a shot. RENT before you BUY.
