Description

In this science fiction thriller, child psychiatrist Catherine Deane (Golden Globe-nominee Jennifer Lopez "Selena," "Maid in Manhattan") has developed a technique that allows her to travel through the minds of her patients. When Stargher (Emmy Award-nominee Vincent DOnofrio TV's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Full Metal Jacket"), a serial killer who methodically drowns his victims and performs bizarre rituals with their bodies, falls into a coma, FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn "Wedding Crashers," "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story") asks Deane to enter the killers psyche in hopes of finding the location of a missing girl whom Stargher has kidnapped and, if she isn't found soon, will drown in her torture cell. However, once Deanne enters the bizarre world of Starghers mind, she finds getting out being a very difficult matter.

This is a horror film for and intellectual and artistic audience, using stunning effects, costumes and imagery to project the internal world of a coma-stricken psychotic killer into the mind of a psychologist in a race to save the life of his final victim. This is not a film that would appeal to an average audience, as it tells a small story that cannot be conveyed in any other way but through the bizarre; which makes the story seem quite large. The Cell deserves high marks for its great direction, great writing, great acting, and amazing visuals that are so far beyond the norm that they represent a serious leap forward in the arts. Again, this is not for the average viewer, for whom the strangeness could be too much to accept. For me, it is a film that has a huge impact and explores a world that is unsettling enough that I only watch this film once every five years or so.
  • I hated it then, still hate it now.

I remember when this movie came out in high school, I had a huge crush on J-Lo at the time and my buddy convinced me to rent this because she had a "nude scene" which was untrue and I also had to sit through the torture of watching this thing. I'm all for breaking barriers and trying new things in film, but this just didn't do it for me. Tried to rewatch as an adult and no bueno.

This movie is one to buy for your collection. It is original and the cast is fantastic! Vincent's character is enigmatic, but at the same time intriguing. Lopez gives a surprisingly good performance as well. Costumes are amazing and the plot is genius. Another classic. P.S. iTunes, let's get a better quality download please. The picture is just terrible. 😝

This is a true sci-fi thriler classic. Very well done; acting, writing, editing, edge-of-your-seat thrilling.

Where to begin? This movie contains every ludicrous cliche ever deployed in the Virtual Reality genre. That's something I could overlooked if something interesting happened in the virtual universe, but all we get is torture porn. Watch it to see Jennifer Lopez in spandex if you must, but know it will permanently cost you about 10 points off your IQ.
  • Visually Stunning

Ignore the jibes about this being a TV spot for Chanel or the complaint that the transfer quality is poor--I rented it in HD and found neither the content nor the rendering to be lacking. This film is very well made, this film is original, and my only regret is that I didn't simply purchase it. For those who notice such things, there are tightly woven motifs compounded by delightful ironies, and Lopez plays an army of characters with a facility I would normally associate Anthony Hopkins with. The plot isn't as brilliantly conceived as the imagery, but you won't care. Be prepared for the infamous horse scene (you'll know it when you see it) and inappropriate villain behavior rivaling that of Ted Levine's in The Silence of the Lambs. Beautifully crafted.
  • I want to buy it in HD!!!
