On it's own, it's a good movie! But read the book and compare the two. You'll later see it is terrible as a William Shadner film! I mean, just read the book!

I really love this movie. The characters actually seem real. However, I think it would be better off as a PG movie - I saw this at the local cinema when I was eight, and it really scared the pants off me. Even so, the whole thing looks real, and I recommend this movie! :) My favorite character is Furlough. My favorite scene with him is when Despereaux tells him about Pea: Despereaux: "It would be worth it. They could tear at my flesh..." Furlough: "Oh, this is Buuh..." I do get the feeling Mayor loathes Despereaux, you can tell by his tone of voice. I also wonder how Despereaux would react if Furlough held a party at his house while Lester and Antoinette went on vacation... probably tell on Furlough. P.S. Paper Planess, Despereaux should be wearing clothes. If he weren't, children couldn't watch the movie - it might be R-rated as a result.

My son really enjoyed the book. He liked the movie, I tolerated it. We both found it disappointing because it was SO much different from the book. The book was wonderful and the movie misses the mark in so many ways. Yes, it has a wonderful cast but sadly loses its charm. Movies made from books can't contain everything from the original story but the odd additions of a gladiator arena and a difficult to explain "chef" made of veggies and a soup kettle is just weird. Its a rental at best. I wouldn't buy it or recommend it to someone who enjoyed the book.

The princess is just mean, the rat is nice....for the beginning,it's just...not as good as the book. If you didn't read the book,it could be an OK movie,I'm just upset I read the book first then the movie...
  • A wonderful movie about....Deaths and sadness?

I was expecting this to be a great, impressing, movie for the whole family. I was dissapointed in the actors and the directors vision of the book. Almost a complete joke to the author. Not good for young children or people who get depressed easily.
