Drew Barrymore heads up the cast in Firestarter, the suspense-filled film based on the best-selling Stephen King novel. After college sweethearts Andrew (David Keith) and Vicky McGee (Heather Locklear) participate in a mysterious psychic experiment, they have a child, Charlie (Barrymore), who is born with the ability to start fires with her mind. Her unique pyrokinetic talent soon comes to the attention of a covert government agency known as "The Shop." Now operatives from this sinister group (Martin Sheen and George C. Scott) are out to capture nine-year-old Charlie and control her supernatural powers at all costs.

Great movie if you can actually own it! I bought this movie from iTunes in Feb 2015. After 6 years of owning the movie on my lap top, itune has some how deleted it off of my own computer and also 3 other movies. Itune will not let me redown load a movie i have already paid for !!?? This is intentional... there is no option for "Redown loading a purchase". This is not an oversite or stupidity by apple. THIS is done BY DESIGN !!!. Im so so tired of these guys treating customers like we are stupid. I am getting rid of these evil people. No more $ from me guys.
  • A movie that really cooks up the scares!

Firestarter is one of my all-time favorite Stephen King movies! It’s rare to see an adaptation that’s so close to the book! Great cast, including Drew Barrymore in the title role! Great screenplay, bringing to vivid life almost every aspect of the book! Great climax, even more gripping than the book, thanks largely to the amazing special effects! Those effects are probably some of the best of the entire 80s decade! If you like the book, you’ll love the movie!👍🏻👍🏻

The book was great, one of King’s best, but the movie is kind of dull. Some very good performances by George C. Scott and Drew Barrymore. Stays reasonably close to the book, it just lacks excitement. Not too good.
  • Not Bad

Not the greatest King movie adaptation, but Drew's performance -particularly in the huge flaming conclusion- and the superb score by Tangerine Dream make it all worthwhile. Three stars but honestly, no better. Too bad the soundtrack is no longer available...

If you want to see a movie that should be remade TODAY, then watch this one! And the book is even better too.
  • skip it

I'm a huge fan of the book so maybe that's why I don't like the movie. I agree with Pepe Le Prawn's review.
  • Read the book... Skip the movie.

The movie was ok. The acting is a little cheezy; typical of a Stephen King book made into a movie. They skipped through a lot and moved quickly, which I think would make it confusing to someone who hasn't read the book. The book is way better. Overall, I'd say read the book, and skip the movie.

Okay well I rented firestarter and I had read just some of the book. When o had read the book I had always had to go do something else. But when I saw the movie on iTunes I pressed rent right away. Firestarter is an amazing movie even though it isn't a 2009/2008 movie. Great and highly recommended.
