Description

Boris Karloff stars in Frankenstein, as the screen's most memorable monster, in what many consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster (Karloff) out of lifeless body parts. Director James Whale's adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel blended with Karloff's compassionate portrayal of a creature groping for identity makes Frankenstein a masterpiece not only of the genre, but of all time.

This movie strikes a chord with me, because the monster is portrayed so sympathetically, I always see the monster as the victim not the villain.
  • The film that deserves to be considered a classic!

I read the book and loved it! That’s been so many years ago that I am amazed that I remember it! But that’s what makes a classic novel is when it is so good that you remember it for the rest of your life! To me, the story got not one, but TWO classic film adaptations: This wonderful gem and the 90s horror movie Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein! Which one is better? Hard to judge because both are FANTASTIC!!!

I believe Bela Lugosi rejecting the role of the Monster was the smart move of his life and career. Karloff made the definitive version of Frankenstein's Monster a household name thanks to Jack Pierce's makeup.
  • Great Looking Preservation of the Presentation

GREAT looking HD transfer of a classic- just enough grain to preserve the look of the film without polishing it to death the way certain companies tend to.
  • Very Disappointed!

Not sure why itunes has this movie as HD! It clearly is not. The movie has so much grain I could not watch the first 5 minutes! Horrible picture quality! Wast of money!

this movie is important for so many reasons. It's the breakout role of the great Boris Karloff. It is also the debut of makeup artist Jack Pearice who defined the monsters look. This is the monster we remember and this is the look we all compare other versions with. The story is basic and based on a stage play rather than the book. Karloffs acting takes this Monster and makes you feel sorry for him and makes you feel his pain. This movie had many parts edited out in 1933 and had a disclaimer / warning inserted as this was heavy stuff 75 years ago. Thankfully all the cut footage was restored and the movie Re-mastered so we can enjoy this true classic the way it was ment to be viewed.
  • Not Restored

This is NOT the restored version of Frankenstein from Universal. Scratches, dust and hissing are very prevalent. If you were hoping for better, you need to go elsewhere.
