Best of the older Holmes movies. Totally different from Rathbone, and Downy Jr. Which are both great. When you put it next to the private life of Sherlock Holmes and the other stuff that came out of the 70s and 80s.

My personal favorite Sherlock Holmes film, and I've seen 'em all. Director Bob Clark, who gave us one of the best Yuletide films, the hilarious CHRISTMAS STORY, also gave us, IMHO, the best Holmes movie to date.
  • It 's Watson's movie

This isn't a bad movie, even if Holmes is weak. James Mason's interpretation of Dr. Watson elevates (if not steals) every scene he is in.
  • nice acting, but not sherlock holmes

i love a good christopher plummer flick, but this was not a sherlock holmes. the emotion displayed is the antithesis of holmes' typical detached manner. no wonder plummer did not make any more of these. stick with basil rathbone and nigel bruce. it's no fun when the good guys lose.
  • Good yes very good story...,

The picture is great. In the top 10's to me. It is classic. You will have to be Sherlock holmes to know what's gonna happen next.
