This one is good and did not need a remake. A sequel perhaps

I didn't bother with this movie when it came out due to the negative reviews here on itunes. I decided to give it a try this weekend, and really enjoyed the story. The story goes into detail of how Robbin Hood came to be focusing on King John and the Magna Carta after King Richard's Death. There is action through out the movie from the start to the end. Maybe for some people the action is not great since you know non of the main characters are going to die. But it didn't take out any of the enjoyment for me. If you are a big fan of Robbin Hood and like seeing different takes about his adventures this one is worth a try.
  • Star Power Negated

Why two of the greatest stars would waist their and our time with such a movie saddens me. They probably had to pay off some debt owed to the director or studio or something. The old saying of ‘Buyer beware’ holds true here. Because if you love the legend of Robin Hood as I do, you will hate this movie.

If you've tackled any subjects pertaining to the Richard the 1st, the Magna Carta and the 1st Barons War, the end of the 3rd Crusade and feudal society of the 13th Century; than this Ridley Scott piece is for you...

Tedium punctuated by stupid fighting scenes. I screamed at the screen three times for incredibly stupid historical inaccuracies (which it is rife with). Elanor, John, Richard etc were FRENCH nobles. It was good to see Cate Blanchett swinging a sword, untrained and mounted. Yet magically, she had a custom set of armor. It was lovely to see a 15 year old boy in a shirt cut down numerous sword wielding, armored grown men with a carving knife. There was the tediously predictable set up with Friar Tuck and his bees. There was a story, a GOOD story possible in the ideas. However, because of the stupid revenge plots, flashbacks, and Big Stupid Battles, it was beaten into the ground by horses I would like to siphone 2.5 hours from Ridley Scott's soul to pay me back for my time.

This movie was exciting on every level. And, yes, I read up enough about the movie to know that this was the 'prequel' to the Robin Hood movie most people are familiar with. I also knew to expect Gladiator-level fighting and gore. I wasn't let down at all. Spectacular.

Most people would dislike it mainly because it does not follow the contemporary style of Robin Hood movies. It rather takes on a historical side. Prince John at the end burns what will be known as the Magna Carta. I agree that this movie is based on how "rabble rousers" change the face of human rights in world as they knew it. I highly recommend this movie.
  • Incredibly Mindless Drivel

I wish i could only rate this one-half a star. Yes, the story stays close to the lengend, but the rest of the film is a hack. Russel Crow sleepacts through the film, barely registering above awake for most of the action. The best part is watching the French invasion force in World War II landing craft storm the beaches. If you watch closley enough, you can see the wakes from the propellers at the rear of the crafts. I also had difficulty imagining a benevolent Cate Blanchett as keeper of the village. Her character is always clean scrubbed and fresh, no dirt, or mud on her person. Unbelievable, unremarkable, ridiculous and stupid. Stay away. The merry men of Sherwood Forest are not happy with this film.
