Description

One of the most thrilling movie epics of all time, Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) tells the story of a sixteenth-century village whose desperate inhabitants hire the eponymous warriors to protect them from invading bandits. This three-hour ride from Akira Kurosawa—featuring legendary actors Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura—seamlessly weaves philosophy and entertainment, delicate human emotions and relentless action, into a rich, evocative, and unforgettable tale of courage and hope.

  • A TRUE CLASSIC In Cinema History

One of the TOP 5 GREATEST FILMS…EVER MADE. Period, and without question. Easy. So many directors have borrowed from this film and it’s influence is still seen today. Tarantino, Scorsese, Spielberg, Scott, the Coen brothers, Soderbergh, Demme, and Cameron; to name a few; who are mere apprentices to the MASTER DIRECTOR that was AKIRA KUROSAWA. This epic also has in it, the LEGENDARY Alpha BOSS actor TOSHIRO MIFUNE, one of my favourite actors of all time. Kurosawa knew talent and screen presence when he saw it and, just as Scorsese had DeNiro and later DiCaprio, as his muses whom he used to create legendary films and performances, Kurosawa had MIFUNE as his muse and vessel to create some of the BEST FILMS ever made. Mifune, at his worst-SHAMES the faux ‘tough guy’ actors of today. He was the REAL DEAL. If you are a true cinema enthusiast and/ or a collector of great films; then your collection will never be complete unless you have THIS MASTERPIECE included. A MUST HAVE that actually deserves it’s 100% Rotten tomatoes rating because it’s film making and story telling at it’s finest. And this film came out 66 YEARS AGO! And if this film is Kurosawa’s ultimate masterpiece, consider RAN, his version/ retelling of Shakespeare’s King Lear as 1A. The mindset and vision that Master Kurosawa had, whilst creating his films, was on a whole new level and galaxy far, far away in terms of story telling and creativity. My ONLY complaint is that SEVEN SAMURAI deserves to be restored in 4K and have it’s score and sound redone in Dolby Atmos for ultimate and proper viewing.

Wowza. Great movie. In an age of New York alien robot explosion movies, this much longer, B&W, subtitled movie was a pleasure to watch. Yes, it's long, and in Japanese, and B&W, but Such a good movie! Spend a couple of bucks and rent it sometime, if you're on the fence. There's a good chance you'll end up buying it after.

Those who rave about this movie only do so because they believe themselves cultured. That’s not a bad thing, but it doesn’t make this a great film. This is not a great film. It’s just a foreign film. Not terrible, but not great either.
