Beautiful, poignant film about a manic young man with an obsession with grizzlies. Hardly a narcissist, Timothy Treadwell's unforgettable and most controversial dedication to the Alaskan bears was not about himself but rather the bonding he felt to these most wild, dangerous animals and who he selflessly worked to protect. Much of his time was spent on free education for kids. It was not from among the regular bear population that killed Timothy and his valiant companion Amie but rather from a bear who was seriously hungry, new to the area and not acclimated to this man who the regular bear population had come to know was no threat and was not afraid. Timothy had stayed too long into the fall and the regular population had moved on to their hibernation spots. He and Amie were scheduled to be picked up by plane the very next day. Furthermore, the bear had been recently knocked out, tagged and likely viewed humans as capable of direct aggression, of course not realizing that they had meant him no harm. Actually, I truly wish Timothy had used his energy and dedication to focus on the awesome, deserving, loyal little foxes he so loved who are the highlight of this stunning film. Timmy the Fox is a gorgeous, endearing critter I shan’t forget.

...Would be a great subtitle to this film: When I first saw this, I confusedly thought it was a spoof because of the central character's absurdity. This cautionary tale should be seen by all who anthropomorphize wild animals. I only wish the filmmakers had the courage to include all of the end footage. Habituating wild predators to humans is reckless and ultimately a death sentence for the animal. This movie makes a great companion flick to Wild.

We all know who Tim was so for ones that call him a idiot that's not rite. This is what he loved from no age so there for he was living his dream great footage poorly used by directors Tim was funny. Crazy and brave and all I'm saying is he is one of the first recored to live with bears? That I know that's big

I have seen this movie a few times and it is so well done I have a hard time not falling back into the story again. Parts of this movie are recordings of an immature adult who had become too comfortable among wild animals. The disappointing part of this movie is you wait 2 hours to hear this man being mauled to death by a bear only to have to suffer that fat self-righteous chic not comming off of the recording.

Treadwell might just be the craziest person to ever walk the earth. I think I would be more scared of being locked in a room alone with him than I would be with a grizzly bear and I'm terrified of bears. This doc is gold.

I obviously misunderstood the film’s summary as well as foolishly believing the “fresh” rating. An animal-life documentary this is not; it is the narrative of a lunatic whose life passion was not to study bears but to become one. I’m disappointed in myself for watching this through to the end out of an absurdly morbid curiosity. Even the $.99 I paid to rent it could have been better spent.

Grizzley man is such an odd film. I think the audience is so fascinated by this story because Timothy is such a caricature. He’s a man of extremes and commitment. His story really could unfold with very little more than the footage shot by Treadwell himself. I actually found most of the additional bits awkward and comical at times. There are moments with the doctor who examined Timmy’s remains that are so poorly edited that it plays as comical. It’s sad, because a guy died, and all the people talking about it are somewhat inarticulate, silly characters. This story is about a man who’s trying to run away from a life he resents and ultimately finds escape in the arms of vicious, indifferent creatures who also happen to be beautiful. The strength of this documentary is Timmy and his footage. All else is unnecessary and somewhat silly.

Are you feeling down? Had a rough week? Need a little pick me up? Then this is the film for you! Come on it's ok to admit it...since the the age of 5 we have all known NOT to play with bears. But...this crazy mo fo with the addition of a zany French narrator almost makes it seem ok. Mr. Ghost the sidekick fox takes this film over the top for comic appeal. This is a film not to be missed!!!
