Description

Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay's Yellow to Arcade Fire's Deep Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. It's impossible to watch Mason and his family without thinking about our own journey.

What a waste of time and talent
  • Too much politics in this movie

I tried to enjoy the story but so much talk of left-leaning politics ruined it. The kid literally walks around putting Obama signs on lawns, and the father gives anti George Bush speeches. Broke the spell of a story that could have been enjoyable.

Boyhood was the most groundbreaking piece of filmmaking i have ever exprienced, the movie itself is pretty cinematic and it teaches the pain of growing up and the bumps in between them. Richard Linklater filmed Boyhood 12 years with the same actors and with many different subplots and brilliant characters that makes the child actors and adult actors to shine. Richard Linklater is known for making such films as (Dazed and Confused, The Before Trogily, School of Rock, Waking life, A Scanner Darkly and Bernie) now with Boyhood it's even more cinematic and handheld. The film follows the 12 moving events of Mason (Ellar Coltrane) as he grows up, hangs out with friends, graduation, music, photgraphy and even college. All of those repeasents Mason as the most influtential special boy in the world. Ethan Hawke who plays the hippy dad gives a cringeworthy performence but as time goes by sometimes Hawke does a good job like always but it was Ellar Cotlrane who gave a outstanding performence as mason as he grows up you can tell he grows up right in front of your eyes. Boyhood is nothing but a cinematic exprience that follows trauamtic expriences and lightheaded fun times with Mason all the acting is fantastic, the editing is very nice and the cinematopgraphy is beyond beautiful. Richard Linklater's creativity lurks between the eyes of Mason he is a interesting character but with all the surros and problems he faces as a kid, teen, adult it makes it hard that the movie is trying to tell a good story and it is but sometimes each and one of those stories kinda feel pointless and forced all iam saying that Boyhood succeeds at being a time lape coming of age film with oscar worthy performences and special messages that come across this Linklater classic. I highly recommend Boyhood and i think all of you will enjoy it because not only it's emotional, sad or depressing it's a film that teaches you something.
