Deep Web gives the inside story of one of the most important and riveting digital crime sagas of the century -- the arrest of Ross William Ulbricht, the 30-year-old entrepreneur convicted of being 'Dread Pirate Roberts,' creator and operator of online black market Silk Road. As the only film with exclusive access to the Ulbricht family, Deep Web explores how the brightest minds and thought leaders behind the Deep Web and Bitcoin are now caught in the crosshairs of the battle for control of a future inextricably linked to technology, with our digital rights hanging in the balance.

  • Retelling A Dangerous Story

Documentaries, that is well-done documentaries, relate and explore the apparent facts. This documentary did that to a great extent, but *NOT* in an objective manner. The issue of selling drugs, and the effects of such drugs on human beings was glided over. The film’s producers turned the story into one of heroism defeated. Drug dealers are not heroes.
  • A Must See.

This film cut deep into issues of what it is to be American, what it means to have privacy and freedom, and what our future will be like with the new technologies shaping civilization today.

The film sheds light unto one of our generations biggest threats: cyber security/government surveillance. If you enjoy this movie, you should dig deeper. If you don’t, you should at least acknowledge that this is an issue in today’s society. Continuing ignorance only gives strength to the threat.

A must see doc from Alex Winter, following up his work on Downloaded. Featuring names like Andy Greenberg from Wired and other controversial tech figures like Cody Wilson, Deep Web’s an insightful and journalistic look at the background of the Silk Road, Ulbricbht’s arrest and persisting mystery.

  • Important Documentary

"Deep Web" presents the information that led to the arrest and conviction of Ross Ulbricht. All information is presented in what I would consider to be a fair and logical manner. While clearly focused on The Dark Net and Silk Road, this documentary takes us far deeper into what has become to feel more and more like an on-going conspiracy of governmental and law enforcement regarding the so-called "War on Drugs." Alex Winter's documentary sheds additional light on the organizations and government that should protect us -- but is most likely doing just the opposite. Unlike Edward Snowden, who in my opinion is an American Hero, and Julian Assange -- the story of Ross Ulbricht is a far more conflicted situation and person. It seems impossible not to feel torn about him and what he supposedly created. Based on the information we know those conflicted feelings are founded, but this man is not the "criminal" we have been led to believe. An important film that every citizen should watch, think about and discuss.

I have been waiting for this documentary since it first was kickstarted and it was worth the wait. The style of the documentary, narrative, characters, content, all were engaging and insightful. Highly recommended and well worth the time - if you know nothing about bitcoin, dark web, silk road or DPR, then this is where its at.
