I would absolutely recommend it if you are a fan of anything Dr Dre has done. I was a little discouraged when I saw that it was about Jimmy Iovine as well but I found his story interesting. Absolutely recommend!
  • Amazing. Top 1st or 2nd doc I've ever seen.

First off, I wanna say that good music died in the 90's. Second, I consider Trent and Dre to be the top 2 producers of all time. So when I saw how intertwined all of this was, I was blown away. It's amazing that one man can have so much influence in music and in history. Without Jimmy, I and millions of others would have been deprived of some of the best music ever made. This was an amazing, in depth and thorough look of what I consider to be the best time in music's history. Extremely well made, entertaining and vastly educational on what really went on behind the scenes. Thank you God for Jimmy Iovine.

A great doc that intersects stories of race, culture, and (of course) music. Part 3 in particular should be considered a case study in skillfully dealing with a large amount of information in a short period of time. One of my favorites!

The Defiant Ones is a 99.9% perfect documentary that tells the parts we know and the parts we don’t know of the legendary story of Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Aftermath, and Interscope Records. It won’t change your life, but it will show you how two very different people worked together to make real world magic. You will learn the story of Interscope’s world famous Christmas records, Dr. Dre’s the Chronic, the beginning of the careers of Kendrick Lamar, Trent Reznor, and more. The interviews with Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Eminem, Bono, and more, are insightful and well made. The way that this documentary presents events from the past is thrilling. I thought I knew almost everything to know about the legendary men and women featured in this documentary, but I was wrong. I learned things I never knew, and a few things that surprised me. If you love music, Dr. Dre, Eminem, U2, documentaries, 80’s and 90’s hip hop and everything in between, this is a doc for you. HBO and Universal knocked it out of the park with this genuinely entertaining story of two real world heroes, the struggles they faced, and the triumphs they made happen.

This is a four hour commercial for crappy headphones with too much bass. This is great marketing but it isn't a documentary. Proceed with your eyes wide open.

This is one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen full of interesting stories of these men plus terrific film footage of many of musics best artists. Told in easy flowing narratives I was so pleasantly surprised at the depth of this documentary.

Found the weaving together of the two stories quite interesting. Learned a lot, amazing the influence Jimmy I had on several generations of artists. Gave too short treatment of the negatives and challenges, but at least flagged some of them.
