Reviews

  • Magnificent!

Never have I submitted a review but I have equally never been so moved by a series & so touched by a story interwoven as it was incorporating a palette of stories in the way master picasso painted. I truly felt amazing insight into why he did what he did and now see in the end a great work of art that was his life, simultaneously beautiful as much as it was equally appallingly ugly. I hope I am correct in seeing this series as the facets of a textured, multidimensional mural - he did in his art evolve to share not what we could all see but what was beyond this...from a child I saw Guernica and never knew what it had meant until now...not historically but as an emotional monument of visual brilliance in its economy of brush stroke and form. I have just seen the last episode & am numb with grief as if the painter passed today...as an adult it’s rare that my emotions catch me off guard - this production has shaken me at my core. This series is the best that TV has to offer in my very humble and narrow opinion and RECOMMEND this series and especially the second season “Genius: Picasso” with no reservation. Masterpiece!

Well played by all performers! The style and director's choices are magnificent, capturing the flow of Picassso's mind and creative force. Bandera's did a wonderful job throughout; for me, he was an excellent choice. Bravo!

I actually have enjoyed this season much more than the Einstein Season 1. I love how they move back and forth between young and old, and while sometimes it is confusing trying to keep up, it does require the viewer to pay close attention. I also enjoyed how they show Picasso warts and all. Basically, he was a gifted person, with a lot of moral flaws. Would he be able to exist today in the #metoo world? Perhaps not. Can we seperate the private person from the artist? That is a quesiton we are being asked to do today. I am not sure. That , to me, is the overall idea of Genius: Picasso: When all is said and done, what survives is the art. Yes, Antonio Banderas takes an episode or two to get used to, as I kept thinking of Puss and Boots as Picasso...but that is quibbles. The look and feel is excellent. The sets , the artwork, and the cast are outstanding.
  • Good subject, wrong actor.

They should have used an unknown for this, because instead of some form of Picasso, all I can see is Antonio Banderas with a lot of makeup. This would have been interesting if someone else was used so the story would have been the main character.
