Description

It's been nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee), has been assembled to restart the project in hope of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. At Ben's side throughout his leaps is Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who appears in the form of a hologram only Ben can see and hear. She's a decorated Army veteran who brings level-headed precision to her job. At the helm of the highly confidential operation is Herbert "Magic" Williams (Ernie Hudson), a no-nonsense career military man who has to answer to his bosses who won't be happy once they learn about the breach of protocol. As Ben leaps from life to life, putting right what once went wrong, it becomes clear that he and the team are on a thrilling journey. However, Addison, the team know that if they are going to solve the mystery of Ben's leap and bring him home, they must act fast or lose him forever.

After nearly 30 years, the beloved series Quantum Leap has made a triumphant return with an entirely new cast. This refreshing take on a timeless classic manages to capture the essence of the original while offering a contemporary perspective for today's audience. The new cast members have embraced their roles with a skill and passion that is truly commendable. The chemistry between them creates a sense of camaraderie that fans of the original series will appreciate. They successfully carry the torch passed down by their predecessors and bring the show's iconic characters to life once more. The writing in this revival is undeniably impressive. Each episode has been meticulously crafted, with the plotlines interwoven in a manner reminiscent of a Fibonacci sequence. This intricate structure ensures that viewers are captivated and left wanting more after every episode. The perfect balance of nostalgia and novelty appeals to both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. One of the standout features of this series is the clever incorporation of Easter eggs. These hidden gems provide an extra layer of enjoyment for viewers, rewarding their keen eyes and attention to detail. Moreover, the show's creators have not shied away from tackling contemporary social issues. By exploring these topics, the series encourages empathy and understanding of the diverse world in which we live. The show's long-standing tradition of promoting acceptance and unity is carried forward in this revival, and the execution is simply (chef's kiss) wonderful. In conclusion, the Quantum Leap revival is a masterful blend of nostalgia, exceptional writing, and outstanding performances from a fresh cast. The series successfully maintains its core values while incorporating timely and relevant themes that resonate with audiences both old and new. A perfect score of 5/5 is well-deserved for this triumphant return to the screen.

I gave it a chance. The show is racist. Plain and simple. This is not quantum leap and should not share the name of the original. Zero stars. Cancel this trash.

I love the ties to the original series and the way that the formula has been updated for our modern era. I look forward to where the series is headed and more intersection with the original.

Does not capture the heart of the original. A lot of just telling, not showing. Plot weak; characters uninteresting. They tried to redo the Swiss cheese memory issues if the original, but hologram just tells us everything. Felt very flat. “You’re a time traveler from 2022. Your name is dr Ben song.” Just like narration included in dialogue to explain things. The twist is no one knows why he leaped. It doesn’t make sense to audience either, because he starts off at a party with his girlfriend (the hologram) then disappears and leaps. They want that to be the mystery, but we don’t feel invested because it flat out doesn’t make sense. Yes plot is resolved by snipping some wires to defuse a bomb. Very flat. Episode felt like it was moving fast and at the same time resolving every conflict too easily. No payoff. And syntax error in software code should not be a plot twist. (And are we to understand a software program is responsible for his leaping now… doesn’t make too much sense.) The worst part is the premise. It takes place 30 years after original project “shut down.” We always imagined Sam and Al going on together. Without the project, it would practically be a death sentence for Sam, as he cannot figure out what to put right without help from future. According to the last original series episode. Sam himself was actually in control of his leaping, which is why he never returned home, there was too much good to be done. But if they shut down the project in the future, then he wouldn’t be able to accomplish his missions or change peoples lives, so presumably he would simply return home. Since they say that he never did, we have to assume he just went leaping around without any help. And what happens to Sam’s body in the waiting room? They just going to let him loose on the streets. That would be one schizophrenic. Overall it completely misses the hearts of the original series. Solving the case by diffusing a bomb, it’s like some low budget NCIS series, but not even as good as that, the original Sam always had to deal with people issues in changing peoples lives. That was the premise. They threw that away. Next we see he leaps into an astronaut about to take off on the space shuttle. Not interested in watching that. It’s all hey what if we put Sam on a space shuttle, and not writing stories about actual people.I really don’t know what Sam can do in space, the whole premise seems uninteresting. hugely disappointed in this reboot. So many reasons not to watch it. I was very excited for it, but after watching the premiere, how can writing be this lazy on a freaking pilot. this is where you make the show. Not interested at all in this reboot anymore.
