  • SGU Universe: Out of the Stargate league!

The original movie that inspired all the TV spinoffs had a lot going for it when it came out so many years ago. I have tried so hard to see enough decent writing, direction, acting and all the rest that goes into making a great Science Fiction tv series. Not until SGU appeared did I find what I was looking for. This show is so much more in every way than what was attempted in all the other SG shows and yet it came too late to garner enough attention. Two seasons, but…WOW…did these two seasons deliver everything I had hoped for, other than an unfortunate cliffhanger ending when the show was cancelled. Another typically horrid decision by the top brass…this show has an amazingly different focus on character depth and development with plenty of intrigue and a dynamite cast.. Too late to survive, Probably dismal ratings because those who are die-hard SG fans must have been severely disappointed by this cerebral and emotionally charged show compared to the usual SG fare. I've seen the two seasons three times now. I bought one season each of the SG shows and can't bring myself to finish them. For those who were disappointed by the various repetitive iterations of SG, please try this one. I hope you will be as amazed and captivated as I have been!

I'm getting ready to watch the two seasons of this phenomenal series for the 4th time. I haven't ever been able to watch it without seeing something new. Robert Carlysle is amazing in this! Don't watch this series expecting to not use your brain. This was written for a Sci Fi Thinking Audience. Not for the faint of heart, SG-U was the darkest and grittiest of the SG franchise but, in my opinion, one of the best written and "scariest." Was cancelled *way* before it should have been and the cliffhanger at the end of the 2nd season will leave you wanting them to revive the series...
  • Only 2 seasons?!

SG1 great! SGA great! SGU please PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! Thank you... It stopped. Not quite soon enough but it stopped. Now I really did try to give this show a fair shake in season 1. I even watched all of season 2 thinking it has to get good some time. Nope it sucked ghost balls the entier time. Lingering on the popularity of SG1&SGA it limped on with all the charm of a lame daytime soap opera. Sci_Fi... Eccuse me "siffy"(syfy) shot itself in the foot with this craptastical show that went NOWHERE at Gate Speed. I want to give it NO STARS but 1 star is the lowes rate... actually as a SCI-FI (not syfy) Fan Negative 3 stars would be a just rating. The craptastical SOAP OPERA format reminds me of the TWITlight vampier show.

Atlantis was the jewel of the Stargate franchise. SG-1 was doofy, childish, with a cast so lazy half of them couldn't pronounce the name of the bad guys, who did, it must be admitted, have a ridiculous name for bad guys. Universe was evidently meant to be the super-serious one, but it's just another soap opera among the stars, a big dysfunctional family made up of mostly really obnoxious characters you'd hate to be stuck on a spaceship with, doing various unappealing things to one another over and over and over again on dark sets with brooding music. The characters are generic -- the really annoying science guy, the cute nerdy genius kid, the stoic military leader, et al. -- and the cast is too. There are inherent reasons it only lasted 2 seasons. Watch Atlantis again instead. It had plenty of flaws too, but it was smarter and classier than the other 2 series put together.

People gave this show a bad rap because it wasn't like the others but I think it was far better. It was more realistic, well made, and it focused on the story and not just the "bad guys". Epic show that was cancelled far to early by the morons at SyFy.

Stargate Universe is now in my top 3 greatest Science Fiction series of all time. Sure explosions, aliens, time travel etc are cool and this series has a little less than the previous Stargate franchises, but that’s exactly why I love SGU so much- it goes beyond the brainless thrills and really makes you THINK. Questioning who we are, where we’re going, and most importantly- why. Some tv series are basically the same story, repeated for several seasons (bad guy aliens, up and coming underdogs, explosions, plot twist finale. Rinse wash repeat) SGU feels more like it would have aged like a fine wine, maturing and developing with every season. So sad that this was cancelled before we could see what it could have been.
  • Great Show

This was a great series that could have and should have lasted as long as SG-1. T But be warned with only 40 episode it will get you hooked wanting to see the next episodes right away but then it will soon be over and as a word of caution the last episode does not provide any closure it only makes you want the yell at the SyFy execs that decided it was okay to end this show. Again it was a great and well worth the watching time.
  • Horrible Show

If I could give this series a -1 star I would. SG1 and SGA was 1 million times better than this crap they canceled SGA for. Can't believe it actually made it to season two, it should have been canceled after the first episode.
