Filme cativante e com ótimo ritmo. Acima de tudo gostei de conhecer a história desse grande jogador de cadres e o contexto do significado à época. Excelente!

An exciting movie about chess players?!! How did they do it? Perfect cast, insightful story, nostalgic atmosphere. In one word, sexy.

The performances are good, but the screenplay spends too much time trying to explain the tempests in Fischer’s mind and how they spur his irrational behavior. We don’t get enough sense of the man’s singular approach to the game and his sheer genius. Chess takes a backseat in this movie, which is unfortunate.

As a chess enthusiast, and one who has always found Fischer interesting, perhaps my expectations were set too high. I think the writer tried to reach too broad an audience and wound up missing everyone as a result. Too many subplots and not enough depth on any of them. Was hoping for something that would pull me in deeper but it never got there. Also ended too abruptly.

Great acting and historically accurate. The climax was of course the Fischer /Spassky tournament and the movie only covered a few games of that and then ended by telling the rest of his life with a few subtitles which I though was like telling half the story. It felt like the movie left me hanging,...but it was entertaining. I think maybe the HBO documentary was more of a complete picture of Bobby Fischer and his troubled life.
