  • No magic just bad

It’s as if five independent animation studios didn’t speak to each other but made a movie anyway. It’s the worst in 70’s animation and story telling.
  • Not for everyone, a great movie though.

If you're the kind of person who names your kids Skylar or Jaden this movie may offend you. If you give your kids normal people names and drink milk made by cows, and aren't afraid that sitting on public park benches might give your kids a disease it's great fun for most ages. Younger audiences may find the animation dated, and it's not oscar worthy story, or really anything by today's standards. There's quite an interesting back story around this movie and a lot to appreciate in context of the time it was created. The atmosphere and world are well built despite not being Miyazaki quality. It's more of a cult classic of golden age sci-fi fantasy that helped define the modern genre. I like this movie, but many people don't. It's 60% ish percent on the tomato meter. If you like period sci-fi fantasy of the day and or cult films you may enjoy this. If you want an undiscovered Lion King experience this isn't likely it. If you think pepperoni is too spicy for children, stay away and maybe stay with Nickelodeon JR's lineup.

The animation, the story, the plot, all meshed together. FANTASTIC movie to have in your library.

Baskshi produced this back in the late 70’s, as in the last century - an experiment mixing live action and animation on his way to applying it to an early version of The Hobbit. Well worth checking out if you’re interested in experimental animation.
