Description

A child's angelic face conceals a budding sociopath in the audacious, senses-shattering feature debut from actor Brady Corbet. A powerhouse international cast led by Robert Pattinson and Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) headlines this dark domestic nightmare. Set amidst the turmoil of World War I and its aftermath, it follows the young son of an American diplomat living in France as he learns to manipulate the adults around him—a monstrous coming of age that ominously parallels the rising tide of Fascism in Europe. A stylistically fearless tour-de-force, The Childhood of a Leader reaches fever-pitch delirium thanks to ravishing cinematography and a thunderous score by legendary, boundary-pushing musician Scott Walker.

  • How did this movie ever get financed?

This has to be the worst movie I have ever seen. The story line is non existent, the music is artsy scratchy ridiculousness, and the acting is poor and disconnected. And to top it off much of the sound track is in French with no subtitles.

The craft on display in this unsettling examination of the genesis of fascist evil cannot be denied. Beautifully shot, perfectly acted, and the score by Scott Walker is one of the best in recent cinema. Definitely worth checking out!
  • Amazing First Effort

A very strong freshman effort from Brady Corbet. Cinematography, performances, and, especially, Scott Walker's soundtrack are top notch. Young Tom Sweet is a breakout while Bejo, Cunningham, Pattinson, and the rest are very strong. An intriguing story that will stay with you.
  • Movie About a Cranky Kid

The music is the most suspenseful element in the entire movie. This is literally a story about an ill-behaved kid. The acting is very good, but the story itself is not worth watching. A lot of scenes of people doing nothing.

This still would be the most mind numbing exasperating film to attempt to get through. There is very little English, which I think is ridiculous. But, if you attempt to wade into this piece of garbage, you will throw up your hands in utter disbelief at the ending. What a crock of crap.

The rise of Hitler(?), Trump(?), whatever, a fascinating look at what makes the man - was it St Augustine that said "show me the boy at 7 and I'll show you the man"? Frightening, terrific look at the rise to power - a must see (if only for RPat)
