Description

Woody Harrelson stars as WILSON, a lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged misanthrope who reunites with his estranged wife (Laura Dern) and gets a shot at happiness when he learns he has a teenage daughter (Isabella Amara) he has never met. In his uniquely outrageous and slightly twisted way, he sets out to connect with her.

Maybe Woody Harrelson wasn't the best person for this role. His acting is always great, but I think that it may be an issue of his noteriety that prevents the offputting/offbeat character he is portraying from coming through as intended.

The script is excellent as is its execution by Woody Harrelson, Laura Dern and others. It's a fair depiction of life in the US and so it is interesting, painful and joyful.

It was a joy to watch very funny. And had a great message about life.
  • Wonderful Movie About a Not-So-Perfect Guy

This is a great low-budget movie about a really irritating guy named Wilson, played to aggravating and irritating perfection by Woody Harrelson. He's in a perpetual mid-life crisis for years, and when he reunites with his ex, played very convincingly by Laura Dern, his life takes an unexpected turn. We follow Wilson as he irritates all who know him, and many who don't know him, and as he learns something about himself and about living a satisfying, although imperfect, life. The movie can be faulted for having tragedy and comedy, and a lot of ups and downs, all mixed together, but that is largely the point. And the movie shouldn't be faulted too much, as some reviewers have, for having a positive message at the end - as that is also largely the point. I was pleasantly surprised by how successful Harrelson and the writers were in making me care about and like Wilson, as flawed as he is - and that makes up for the flaws in his character, and in the movie, in the end. See this movie - it is more real than all of the comic book superhero movies put together, even though the story came from a graphic novel.
