Description

Gilby Smalls is having a meltdown. He's just been fired from his job, lost his apartment in a fire and his girlfriend gave him the boot. Forced to move in with his booze-swindling man-obsessed mother, he’s desperate to turn things around. Gilby weaves a web of lies; one bigger than the next and finds himself in too deep when the truth proves to be too much to admit and even harder to accept.

Harry Meets Sally meets 500 Days of Summer in Phil Allocco’s new indie The Truth About Lies. I was amazed with the direction and its unconventional love story. The story follows a desperate man who gets caught up in a web of lies which inevitably gets unveiled. This witty comedy is about self-discovery, finding love, and unveiling the truth. I really think rom-com lovers will appreciate this one! This is going to be your next favorite!

Finding a movie that gets you through a break up is hard since most romantic comedies are about finding love. However, The Truth About Lies is about self-discovery and appreciating the people we have, while mixing in some hilarious situational humor. Those elements make for a great rom-com! I loved the witty banter and the organic chemistry between the two leads. It's a great film for mending a broken heart!

The Truth About Lies cast the perfect actors as Rachel (Odette Annable) and Gilby (Fran Kranz). The two characters each showed the different sides to love. I could see the chemistry between the two characters, making the film even more realistic. If you are looking for a film with the perfect balance of romance and comedy, I’d recommend this film for you.

I was fortunate enough to attend the NYC premiere this weekend and let me tell you, I haven't heard an audience laugh like that in a long time! There are so many hilarious moments in the film that are both totally relatable and absolutely cringe-worthy. The writing is smart and witty, along with the actors who have clearly mastered the art of adlibbing. The cast's chemistry is effortless and real, which also made for a nice treat to see them at the Q&A after the screening. The director & writer Phil Allocco revealed that the storyline of the film is made up of details from his own life experiences! Overall, The Truth About Lies is charming, outrageous and will give you a good laugh. Absolutely recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this intelligent and compelling movie, and I laughed non-stop! Not only is “The Truth About Lies” hilarious, it is also an insightful commentary on human nature and relationships. The movie explores relationships between romantic partners, friends, siblings, exes, and parents/children. We relate to the flawed characters because we understand their emotional struggles and their yearning for fulfillment in life. The main character, Gilby Smalls, played by the brilliant Fran Kranz, tells a white lie to impress a woman. One lie leads to another, and he ends up tangled in a web of deceit that leads to a fast-paced, uproarious, fun ride for the audience. He finds himself in absurd situations again and again. Even though Smalls is not your typical protagonist — he is an habitual liar, after all — Kranz’s spot-on portrayal is so endearing and entertaining, you can’t help but root for him! The truth comes out in a superbly orchestrated finale that will leave you wanting more.

This movie was able to embrace and develop the realities of relationships by seamlessly incorporating both the feel-good moments and the harsh truths. By delivering a compelling performance that focuses on personal growth, Fran Kranz and Odette Annable, were able to effortlessly portray their characters, adding to the playful nature of the film. This film is definitely a must watch.
