Description

Against the explosive backdrop of the Iraq War, young soldiers Brandon Bartle (Alden Ehrenreich) and Daniel Murphy (Tye Sheridan) forge a deep bond of friendship. When tragedy strikes the platoon, one soldier must return home to face the hard truth behind the incident, and help a grieving mother (Jennifer Aniston) find peace. With a compelling mix of battle action and poignant drama, The Yellow Birds is an unforgettable movie whose power resonates long after the final frame.

For some reason almost all of the war films based on OIF/OEF timeframe seem to have the same depressive tone that does not come close to reality. And the thing that really hurts films like this is the small things, for example in the beginning when they are on the M4 range and Murphy is firing at the targets each shot creates 3 holes. Next, over and over again they call their squad leader sir which is also very wrong. The lack of any tactical considerations in the film was also very inaccurate as well. The decision the two main characters make at the end makes zero sense at all. What this film did better than others was the city environments and trash and added good element. But the lack of the big picture of how operations actually happen just kind of fell flat for me. I did give 3 stars still, due to the fact some of the scenes were ok. Too bad though that Hollywood continues to paint this picture that nobody who ever deployed in these wars was able to have a normal life. If they ever made a film about my deployments, they would have a really good film.
