Description

Dani and Christian are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing. From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight.

  • Worst movie I’ve ever seen

I’m glad I know this Director so I will make sure I never see another piece by him. Bloated story about innocent people being slaughtered in grotesque ways with bizarre rituals with everyone wearing white. Turned it off five minutes before the end because the carnality just kept getting worse and worse. very upsetting images. This is not a thriller. This is a slasher film.

Decent but overrated. Don’t believe the hype.

It’s kinda the same basic concept of wicker man. It’s definitely slow and will make you hate anthropology students even more than you already do. The creepiest part is that it could happen in real life and you would know until it’s too late.
  • Not for everyone, clearly

Looking at the reviews you will see plenty of 5 as well as 1 stars. Most of the low reviews are from people who haven’t had a chance to process this movie to the fullest extent. It’s also likely they are used to consuming their entertainment with all the usual trademarks of Hollywood. The suspense, build up and tricks that you would normally find are not here and can leave some people scratching their heads and asking for a refund. If you take this movie for what it’s worth - A masterful piece full of symbolism and metaphorical storytelling - you will find so much to be offered here. I would definitely point you to an explanation video on this movie after a couple views to really understand all this movie has to offer, specifically the one by Truthstream media on YouTube. Make no mistake, this is not a family classic that you will be watching once a year, but this is real cinema in its rawest form and I just can’t recommend this movie enough, if only to be seen once.

Lovely cinematography the two sidekick friends could have been cast better and well their fates were predictable needed more in-depth with main characters families for development which more than likely would have extended the movie another hour but would have had improved plot development and the ending a lot. Enjoyable and gorgeously filmed but there were certainly room for improvement.

It took me awhile to watch this movie because everyone I know said it “sucked” but I decided to watch it for myself and form my own opinion. This film has become one of my favorite movies of all time! I absolutely love the beautifully stunning colors, atmosphere, and pagan elements of this film combined with haunting horror and the twisted disturbing storyline. There are so many hidden little gems in this film that further more explore the folklore and meaning of the film that you really have to dig deep for but make it so much more captivating. This isn’t for lazy millennials who just want mindless entertainment, this is a beautiful work of art that should be studied and appreciated for what it is.

First off watch the directors cut! As one reviewer said “great break up movie” well it is! As well as everything else that goes into it!! Be patient and just enjoy it for what it is. It’s not a horror film so beware. More of a drama to me, but underrated and outstanding!!
  • Beautifully made movie
