Description

Black babies don’t come from white people. Except this one just did. Jen swears to Tom that he’s the father, and she’s just as dumbfounded as everyone else. Tom says he believes her. They’re a team built on trust and they’re in this together. They choose to accept the unexplainable because the responsibility of caring for a newborn is bigger than the inexplicable fact that he’s black. . . isn’t it? Soon, amidst a constant barrage of questions from everyone, Tom’s doubts and worst fears begin to take hold. Both new parents are scared by the thoughts entering their minds, and scared to share them with each other. Baby Liam seems to love their dear friend Ron – why is it suddenly harder for Tom? And why do people keep confusing Ron for Liam’s father? Maybe because they’re both black. By the time a twist is revealed that could explain the baby’s appearance, it may be too late. Before Tom and Jen can accept their child, they’ll have to accept themselves. Or face living their lives apart.

Of renting this film!! This was awful. Could have been an awesome movie, but it was boring, dumb, and pathetic...

The writing, the acting, the direction & production values in this provocative Indie film are stunning - dealing with race in a tender look-in-the-mirror turnabout - a must see!

Some things just need some time good, honest conversation to help absorb. This is one of those movies that makes you really consider your own sense of self as you consider what your own reactions would be. Hats off to those that believed enough to bring this story to us.

A nuanced but biting statement about the role of race and expectations in our society. An incredible debut for the writer/director! Hopefully there will be more to follow!

This brave film deals with the issue of race and the reality of human beings who just want to be seen as human beings. I was most moved by the real, honest talk from father to son, when color was released and was not in the picture. This is the goal. Human to human without consideration of color. Thank you for this beautifully written and brilliantly acted message to mankind. Definitely FIVE STARS!

Honest and thought provoking. You’re gonna be talking about this one for a while.
  • A stirring drama about race and identity

You think you know who you are and what you believe in. Then you get hit by a major curveball that forces you to reevaluate everything. You might not like what you see in the mirror, or be ashamed by how you reacted when your guard was down. You could apply this premise to lots of things, but this film does it with race and does it very well. At a time when our country is going through major growing pains, especially around the issue of race, we need this film. I can’t rememberer the last movie I watched which made me want to talk so much immediately after seeing it, the next day after seeing it, and the next. It’s the kind of film you wish they’d show in high school, but it’s not didactic at all. It’s an engrossing drama (with some wonderful performances and some utterly searing lines of dialogue) that kept me hooked from beginning to end.
  • An intense story, based on truth

An uncomfortably gripping account, impossible for me not to imagine my own potential responses to this situation. Brings Race home for me.
