Description

On June 4th, 2004, a sixty-three-ton bulldozer, fortified with steel and concrete, systematically destroyed numerous businesses and homes in the small mountain town of Granby, Colorado. The rampage lasted over two hours and resulted in more than eight million dollars in damage. State and local police were incapable of even slowing the machine. Though it was armed with three high-powered firearms, no one but the driver was killed. His name was Marvin Heemeyer. TREAD explores the polarizing perspectives on this man, his motives, and what drove him to the breaking point.

What is it about Colorado? Not sure why, but this reminds me of Columbine.

Glad no one was hurt and hope my $.99 cents to watch this goes to something good for the town. I think it taught them don’t back anyone into a corner. Good documentary!

Paul Solet unearths a complicated story of power imbalance and mental illness that erupted into one the strangest acts of rebellion in recent history. Tread is an extremely well crafted mix of found footage, re-enactments and in depth interviews, making it one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in a long time.

Done very well all they out except for the ending. Like a quick blurb with snowboarders spreading his ashes?!?!? Come on. Talk about the money in damage he did, some more interviews with people of the town, something. Real bad way to end a great doc. My 2 cents.

The story of Marv Heemeyer had to be told!! Amazing work by Director Paul Solet and DP Zoran Popovic! Was Marv a hero or a villain? Watch and decide!

  • Well done cinematically but a little too brief [SPOILER]

Very well done cinematic representation of the events that led to and including Heemeyer's modified bulldozer attack on the city of Granby, CO. The narrative does a nice job of showcasing both sides of the argument regarding the muffler shop property, and ulitmately it's very clear what paranoia, grudge holding and bitterness will lead people to doing and then attempting to justify, no matter how horrifying. One gripe I do have is that in the immediate aftermath of the attack, there's no time for an epilogue SPOILER ALERT The movie simply ends with his snowmobiling friends saying one sentence about how they scattered his ashes, and then the last message from Heemeyer on his tape recorder. There could have been a nice coda at the end, showing how the town recovered from the rampage, they were able to rebuild and Heemeyer's rampage didn't even accomplish anything. It's almost like they ran out of money before they finished it. In short, it was extremely polished and amazing how they actually built a full scale replica of the "killdozer" for the re-enactment, instead of relying soley on cgi. However, the ending was way too brief and mostly left me with a hollow feeling.
