I thought I was getting into a straight forward slasher, but it was much more clever than I thought. While there were many extremely gory moments, the plot also kept our interest. I hope they make a sequel. Recommended! 👍🏼👍🏼
  • A new classic with a monster you can empathize with.

Let’s face it. The horror movie format has been recycled over and over again. And usually all I find these days is the same film with a different title. I’ve been trying to find a horror film that stands up to some of the amazing classics . A film with a complex psychological story and a monster who I empathize with but still scares the hell out of me. It’s rare but those films do exist. The original ‘Carrie’ is one of my favorites along with the original ‘Frankenstein.’ Now you can add The Dare’ into this rare category. ‘The Dare’ surprised the hell out of me. At first I thought it was going to be another version of the original ‘Halloween’ because of the poster. To my surprise ‘The Dare’ is not a copy cat and was even more sophisticated than John Carpenter’s ground breaking film. The writers and director of ‘The Dare’ went the extra mile by giving me a tragic three dimensional monster and a story and supporting characters that add up to more than just a body count. That’s the strength of the film. Story and direction. I also loved the cinematography. Little things like making the drapes transparent in the house, where a home invasion occurs, was a nice touch. You can see the outside world through the sheer drapes, which adds depth to the shot, and also creates a sense of hope that maybe someone in the neighborhood will see this family in peril and will call the police. I don’t want to say any more because I hate when reviews give you the whole story. I definitely was surprised by and enjoyed ‘The Dare.’ It’s two stories in one and fluidity shifts from psychological thriller to a dark torture/slasher film that will raise your blood pressure. Enjoy the ride.

Engaging, tight horror/thriller. Really gross and compelling. Exactly what horror fans would be looking for.

I don’t usually get shocked by horrors but this has me squirming. Decent story and well acted. Definitely recommend to horror fans or any people currently in quarantine (which is everyone)
