Description

Godzilla (a.k.a. Gojira) is the roaring granddaddy of all monster movies. It’s also a remarkably humane and melancholy drama, made in Japan at a time when the country was reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific. Its rampaging radioactive beast, the poignant embodiment of an entire population’s fears, became a beloved international icon of destruction, spawning almost thirty sequels. A thrilling, tactile spectacle that continues to be a cult phenomenon, the original, 1954 Japanese version is presented here.

I can say that without a doubt this is the best of the entire franchise. But I need to address that every last Godzilla film that has been ever made needs to be released for all to buy on its original Japanese audio and accurate English subtitle translations as well. I really really really hope that in the next iOS update and or iTunes update we can get them all in their uncut versions.

I remember watching this as a rerun on tv. I have since bought this on dvd with the english dub and the Japanese original. It is a very good movie to watch.

I adore this movie, but can’t really enjoy it because half the time I can’t see the subtitles (white subtitles in a black and white movie just don’t work), Please update this so Apple recognizes all the classic Godzilla movies as having subtitles, so the viewer has a chance to modify them so that they can see.

When you really think about it, Godzilla was the first cinematic universe before Star Wars and Marvel came to mind. It was centered around nuclear warfare that happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1944 and ten years later, Toho released Godzilla as a metaphor for that tragedy. Two years later, Rodan was created as a metaphor for nuclear warfare against Japan caused by the Soviet Union. Anyways, this film is a cinematic masterpiece. It never grows old. Anyone who doesn’t like it is a very disturbed person. If you’re a monster movie fan, definitely consider watching this. 10/10.

One of the greatest monster movies (if not) of all time! Classic. Original 1954 version. “Gojira”
