Saved by my Feet is the inspirational story of "Running Man" Tom McGrath, who nearly lost his life to alcohol abuse, but through running 1,000’s and 1,000’s of miles for charity has found a second chance at life.The film follows McGrath's last great run from Belfast to Dublin at the age of 69, anddocuments the highs and lows of his 100-mile journey and the end of an enigmatic career.When an underlying injury pops up, Tom's journey to raise much needed funds for the troubled youth of Ireland is thrown into doubt. The documentary explores McGrath's glory days as a running champion, once breaking the world record for fastest crossing of the United States in 1977, and covers his troubled past ofalcoholism and ultimately his rise from the ashes to a tireless campaigner.The film is interspersed with Mcgrath's travels across Ireland and the USA to find out how alcohol and mental health problems are linked. Speaking to people most affected by mental health problems and the organizations who help them, Tom discovers similarities to his own life experiences. Doctors, scientists, care workers and charities explain how Alcohol is associated with a rangemental health problems and consequences. These include depression, anxiety, suicide, risk-taking behaviors, personality disorders and schizophrenia. All the while Tom asks the onequestion he's always wanted answered: “Can Alcoholism Be Cured”?
