Description

In this powerful drama directed by acclaimed filmmaker Abel Ferrara, a young priest, Padre Pio (Shia LaBeouf), begins his ministry at a remote Capuchin monastery in Italy’s San Giovanni Rotondo. WWI has ended and Italian soldiers — broken but victorious — are returning to the impoverished village ruled by wealthy landowners. As events surrounding the first free election in Italy threaten to tear the village apart, Padre Pio struggles with his own personal demons, ultimately emerging from his spiritual anguish to become one of Catholicism’s most venerated figures.

  • Hat a Waste of Film

Shia LeBeouf as a man of God? Who on earth would be so foolish as to believe that? He is a hateful childish third rate actor at best! Someone wasted a lot of money making this film.
  • Do not want this blasphemous movie.

I was excited to watch to this film, but it is an epic failure. The movie is blasphemous with a naked woman as a female demon licking a picture of the Virgin Mary. It portrays the Saint as a lunatic either crying or scream in and and swearing. The parallel side story has no plot just talks about socialism. Cinematography makes you feel nauseous as it bounces the camera around. Do not waste money or time on this trash.
  • Padre Pio…. Why did thy call it that?

Why I didn’t like this movie…. Wasn’t a biopic. Wasn’t even really about Padre Pio. Not sure, but I’m guessing the real Padre Pio didn’t use the F word. Fully nude woman in a slightly pornographic scene. This was necessary because???? Over all It was hard to follow, and I shut it off after about an hour. As a Catholic, it wasn’t what I hoped, for which was a biopic on Padre Pio‘s life. he wasn’t even in the movie that much and what I saw I didn’t like. If you’re looking for a spiritually uplifting biopic about a beloved Saint, this should be a hard pass

It was very hard to follow and had not much to do with Padre Pio. I’d give it no stars if I could

Padre Pío is barely in the movie! Mostly about Italian politics. Had hopes for this! Major let down!
  • This is NOT a Padre Pio movie…

Incredibly disappointing. The only redeeming thing about it was Shia LaBouf’s performance, and he is *barely* in it. The whole movie is an apologetic for the socialist movement in Italy c. 1918, with an over-the-top portrayal of the fascists/capitalists (which they equate) as mustache-twisting villain cardboard cut-outs versus the noble, oppressed socialist just wanting to live. Padre Pio is a background character, with little screen time, and is irrelevant to the plot of the movie. He has zero interaction with any other character other than administering Holy Communion. The movie was a gross, forced cramming together of two separate stories, each having virtually nothing to do with the other, which is disappointing, because I had really wanted to see a biopic about Padre Pio. Unfortunately, that’s not what this steaming mess was.
  • War and Politics Movie, not Padre Pio

This movie was incredibly disappointing. The movie was about the war with cameos of Padre Pio. The movie title and trailers lead you believe the film is about Padre Pio, but you will only see small bits of him. You learn very little of him. I wanted to love this film and looked forward to Shia’s role in the film but wow. I would not watch again and I would not recommend. Shia was great, it’s too bad we couldn’t see more.
