Description

In a near-empty Northfork orphanage, Father Harlan gently tends to Irwin, a eight-year-old who lies between a dreamstate and death. As orphanage caretaker Harlan reads aloud about Northfork's years-ago forced evacuation to make way for a hydro-electric dam, Irwin's imagination takes flight. While a team of six men evacuate the last remaining citizens of the town, Irwin, too, invents a cast of characters to prepare himself for his own evacuation.

I just finished watching this on cable. Surreal and quirky. But beautiful. The visual puns were great. Some of the dialogue I found witty and out right funny. I don't consider myself an "art house" movie goer, but i know when to suspend reality in a movie theatre and just enjoy someone else's vision. This is a happy diversion from typical Hollywood and a good stretch of the imagination.

the best movie i have gone to see...just that...the BeSt! peeking in on death a little, in sips and starts is privileged here, without the heavy jargon of the obvious. mark twain would adore michael polish, for he creates "happening" within his cast & crew and harbors the humor of past decades

Not the most inspiring film i have seen, but... It was very well shot, the photography in it I personally love. The script was well written, some what along the lines of "The Science of Sleep". The acting was well done, and the character's very creative, quarky, and interesting. I would definatly watch this film again, maybe not several times in a row, but i would watch it again in the near future. Michael Polish did a wonderful job filming and directing this piece. Cheers to the cast and crew of Northfork. Hope this was helpful and you enjoy this very interesting and dynamic film.

Not good. Yes,the photography is very nice at points, and some of the acting (James Woods, etc.) is refreshing and enjoyable, but the story is beyond bizarre. This is one of those movies the "special" people love to "ohh" and "ahh" over, because no one can make any sense of it unless you willing to over-philosophize everything in the movie. You leave the movie trying to figure out what the heck it was about, and why half of it simply makes no sense - even given you know it was a little boy dreaming it in a sick bed. Really, this went way too far into the surreal. And, please, can't someone do something about Daryl Hannah already? Isn't it enough Julie Roberts is still trying to act?
