Description

The world-famous Three Stooges turn the classic fairy tale on it's ear, with their own personal send-up of the Snow White tale. The usual slap-shtick high jinks of the trio of kooks - Curly (Joe), Larry, and Moe - are wrapped around a not-so-close resemblance to the story about the lovely maiden and the wicked queen. Olympic champion figure skater Carol Heiss plays Snow White, and the Three Stooges take the place of the seven dwarfs.

This film (released in 1961) is significant for the fact that it was one of the few films the Stooges made in color. The problem here is that the Stooges appear to be guest stars in their own film. In fact, on the one sheet poster for this film, 'Snow White' is featured prominently while the Stooges have a small picture in the corner even though they were the obvious draw here. Made on an overblown budget of 3.5 million dollars (the film LOOKS nice but Moe would later recall this one as a 'technicolor mistake') it mostly provides a showcase for 1960 Olympic skating champ Carol Heiss. Aside from that, there isn't much to recommend here. It's fun to see old men beat the hell out of each other but that is even tame at this late stage in the game when the Stooges themselves revised the act to make it more kid friendly. Unfortunately, a really charming musical number "Looking for People, Looking for Fun" where the Stooges sing was cut from the film even though it remains on the soundtrack album (if you can find it and have a turntable). Hey, at 107 minutes (the majority of which is sans our heroes) I guess another 3 minute musical number that did feature them would have made people fidget in their seats. If you are interested in this last chapter of the Stooges extensive career, rent Meet Hercules, In Orbit or any of their other 60s features that are available. This one is for the die-hard only and morbidly curious.
