Description

Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired, down-on-their-luck outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty offered by the vengeful prostitutes of the remote Wyoming town of Big Whiskey. Richard Harris is an ill-fated interloper, a colorful killer-for-hire called English Bob, and Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Gene Hackman is the sly and brutal local sheriff whose brand of law enforcement ranges from unconventional to ruthless.

Awesome 5-star movie. Please fix the scanning lines from 14:13 - 16:25. Aside from that, it looks great in 4K.

Some films are timeless, their stories ring true throughout the years. A woman working as a prostitute is cut up by a local cowboy, and the women of Greelyโ€™s Beer Garden and Billiard Parlor decide to take the law into their own hands, against the iron will of the sheriff (Gene Hackman, in one of his finest roles). When gunslingers come to collect the reward, the little town of Big Whiskey will never be the same. Itโ€™s the story about Manifest Destiny, the Myth of the Gunslinger and of the American Dream. But most of all itโ€™s a story about William Munny (Clint Eastwood), an ex-gunslinger who left the wild, drunken violence of his youth behind him when he married. With two youngsters to feed, the lure of a cash reward pulls Munny away from the peaceful hog farm, and sets him on the road to Big Whiskey, Wyoming. Along for the ride is Ned (Morgan Freeman), an old acquaintance from Willโ€™s dark past, and The Scofield Kid (Jaimz Woolvett), an upstart raised on stories of the Wild West. On the road to Big Whiskey, however, the past has a way of coming back... And the reward money proves difficult to earn when the sheriff catches wind of it. They donโ€™t make movies like this anymore. Full of rich layers, subtext, and symbolism, Clint Eastwoodโ€™s masterpiece is my favorite film of all time.

Eastwood plays this perfectly: doesn't explain himself, never backs down when he's cornered. Morgan Freeman is one hell of an actor. Great screenplay, great camera work.

It was a close call between this and Tombstone. But plain and simple, they just don't make them like this anymore. Acting is top notch. It's something you just want to watch over again. A nostalgic feeling and remembrance for the past will leave you wishing other westerns were made of this quality. A nod to Eastwood on a job well done!
