Description

William Holden and Nancy Kwan star in this soul-searching look at an East-meets-West romance. He's a struggling American artist who's down on his luck. She's a beautiful Chinese prostitute who captures his heart. The scenery is as spectacular as the colorful and exotic streets of Hong Kong in this wonderfully warm story about the strength of true love.

What many people may not know nowadays is that this film was controversial in it’s day for a few things. 1) The “prostitute with a heart of gold” stereotype and 2) the stereotyping of asian women.

William Holden is as good as he ever was. Nancy Kwan is a superlative beauty. Very touching.

William Holden & Nancy Kwan are fantastic in this movie. The story is well developed and ever better acted by the cast .I very much appreciate the fact that the chinese role's are not played by "white" actors in dark makeup (remember Love is a many Splendored Thing's eurasian Dr. Suyin played by Jennifer Jones?) It deal's with class, the struggles in life both main lead character's face at different times in their lives , that some how make come together in this movie, beautifully shot on location in Hong Kong.
