Description

Bubbling with wit, stellar performances and lavish cinematography, MOLIÈRE stars multi-Cesar(r)-nominated French actor Romain Duris as Molière, a down-and-out actor-cum-playwright up to his ears in debt. When the wealthy Jourdain (Cesar(r)-winner Fabrice Luchini) offers to cover that debt (so that Molière's theatrical talents might help Jourdain win the heart of a certain widowed marquise), hilarity ensues. Disguised as a priest, Molière becomes a guest in Jourdain's palace on the pretext of teaching Jourdain the craft of the stage, which annoys his wife, Elmire. But, soon after, the confrontation between Elmire and Molière turns seductive. Too busy to notice, Jourdain enlists the aid of a well connected and scheming acquaintance, to help him pursue the young widow. Romantic yearning, human foibles and laughs galore all characterize MOLIÈRE, a delightful film that slyly captures your heart.

    Please, iTunes, add more French/international films!!! This is a fun, entertaining movie, not "pretentious" or whatever it is most people think French movies are.

    It's so refreshing to enjoy a well written movie! This movie is also quite historically accurate about Moliere's life, today an exception to the rule. The writer, director and producer made a fine, historically close, very very amuzing and funny comedy just like Moliere would have wanted! I highly recommend this movie for its entertaining and cultural value. I also happen to like a lot the 1700s period and this movie portrays that time quite accurately. If you are looking at having a really good time, learn about some European culture and enjoy a more subtle and refined sense of humour I highly recommend it! You will not be disapointed, this is a movie you can watch on your own or with family. Everyone will understand it and learn a little about an author just as famous and big as Shakespeare. My thanks to iTunes for bringing movies of this caliber!

    ... vos beaux yeux d'amour me font mourir... What a pleasure to find all these classical and famous Moliere moments in one movie!!! The actors are fantastic, and Luchini is simply amazing and funny in Mr Jourdain. This is definitely a must-see!
