Description

The Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay, Gosford Park is a whodunit as only director Robert Altman could do it. As a hunting party gathers at the country estate, no one is aware that before the weekend is over, someone will be murdered - twice! The police are baffled but the all-seeing, all-hearing servants know that almost everyone had a motive. This critically-acclaimed murder mystery features a who's who of celebrated actors. With a diverse cast of characters - all with something to hide - it'll keep you guessing right to the surprising end. Gosford Park proves that murder can be such an inconvenience.

First this is not a comedy as listed it's a drama. I love this movie, whenever I don't know what to watch I turn this on. I love the time period and the relationships between the upstairs and the downstairs or lack of one.

Fantastic film, although it was not a comedy as claimed to be. More like a dry humor I might add. This film is very mysterious and full of suspense. It requires you to actually pay attention the minute it begins. Due to the fact that you would get lost somewhere in it because of its many twists and subliminal messages that require you to out two and two together. I liked it; which is why I am giving it a five star rating.
  • Over-rated, not a comedy, lame "mystery"

I'm a HUGE Downton Abbey fan and never saw this movie (both written by Julian Fellowes) so I rented it. GP had way too many characters in it. It was not interesting or funny at all (this is a comedy?) and moved slowly. The "mystery" was particularly lame! I am shocked this won an Oscar.

I started to watch this movie but wasn't able to understand the dialog because they talked too low and too fast. Maybe it's just me.

I felt overall the performances were great, and everyone did an awesome job… but it seemed at times the movie was trying to hard to be provocative or edgy. I dunno, maybe not being British, and not having servants or growing up in the affluent atmosphere, I can't truly appreciate the socieo-undertones of an unwritten caste system. The ending, with out spoiling, actually irritated me, with Clive Owen's character and the head house made. I was like, wait, what, you mean, so she's just gonna what? Though, I didn't write the movie so how can I criticize. Overall the performances, characters, costumes, set-design were all very well done and should be applauded.

This film is absolutely fabulous, but it is a drama, not a comedy as the trailer on iTunes depicts.
  • Great performances, but Overrated

I never understood how "Gosford Park" got nominated for Best Picture. The performances were brilliant, but the story was drab, boring, and listless. I kept checking my watch to see when this film would end, because I was nodding off. In a word, another overrated film getting nominated for Best Picture, as so many pretentious films do lately.

This movie is definitely one of my all-time favorites. Every scene and character is completely rich and complex- there isn't one boring scene through the entire movie. I HIGHLY recommend this movie everyone over the age of 13 (the only reason it's rated R is for a few mild sex scenes- and you barely see anything anyway.)
