Description

The first shot of Charade shows a pistol swinging ominously into a close-up - and Audrey Hepburn gets a squirt of water right in the eye. And so it goes: Charade is an elegant thriller that manages to spoof its genre while at the same time being uncommonly suspenseful. Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn are the ideal leads for keeping their cool under preposterous twists in a deadly chase through Parisian environs. The supporting heavies include James Coburn, George Kennedy and Walter Matthau. There are five corpses; the red-herrings are incalculable; the gowns are by Givenchy; the percussive score is by Henry Mancini and the point of the whole thing is style and wit for their own sake. And what better sake is there? Charade, in its own way, is one of the most radical and experimental films of the '60s.

I love anything and everything Audrey Hepburn ... especially this one. And paring her with Cary Grant, another favorite was brilliant. Fun + dramatic thriller and one of the best romantic scores... you will enjoy it.

Screwball spy rom com. Hepburn outshines Grant, which is not an easy thing to do. It gets dark at times, but it never overtakes the overall playfulness of the plot.

Although this movie is from before my time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the storyline; it had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. Audrey and Cary killed it with their witty banter and cat/mouse games. If you enjoy the chic 60s and like some humor in your thrillers, this one's for you!

Well allow me to retort. I know this movie has many fans, but I think it's just okay. It's a classy Hitchcock imitation from the Bond era, so it's fun to watch for Swigin' Sixties nostalgia. But Hepburn, as usual, is not very good except as a Givenchy clothes hanger, and while the mature Grant was suave and silvery, he's just going through the motions. They don't generate much heat or chemistry, leaving it to the strong supporting cast, the locations, the fine Mancini score and a fun screenplay. It's a diverting time-passer for a rainy Sunday afternoon, and lighthearted enough to be appealing, but I kept wishing it really was Hitchcock directing, maybe with Grace Kelly instead.

This movie defines ironic comedy; its twists and turns are better than Hitchcock or Christie. With all the red herrings, it's becomes very fishy. Even at the end I'm not sure what happened. A very sophisticated, intelligent comedy. This is truly a classic movie.

Audrey is top notch at playing the rich, elegant wife of an estranged husband. She comes back from a Swiss vacay to find that her husband is dead. He has stolen money from the gov. After meeting 4 creepy men at the deceased's funeral, they follow her and taunt her to try to find the money, which they think she has and think belongs to them. With the help of Cary Grant, falling in love with Cary, and distrust of the mysterious Cary, Audrey tries to track down the money. Kidnapping. Roof fights. Murder. Romance. This is a million star movie. First time i saw it when I was 5 years old, I loved it. It is truly one of the best mystery, romance, action, classic, and noir movie. It is in the tradition of the grand Monsieur Hitchcock but even better. BUY IT and you will NOT regret it!!!!

It's one of Audrey's finest crafts, a must-see&own item. Those who has seen already, should go get it in Blu-ray. The whole film was amazing, i couldn't believe it.
